Hanging attained the Food Safety Hygiene course in Catering fo £12 has allowed my wife to start working in her first job as a waitress - and it has reminded me of a job I had in Germany when I was 19 as a waiter in a hotel.

She is now beginning to understand how multinational the UK is when she finds her colleagues to be African, Indian and Bulgarian.

She finds some accents difficult and mentioned one customer asked for Vichy water ….

Not to be shy and be confident
I was shy , not confident and I worried so much, what if they don't understand me :). But I managed to get over it . I said to myself "Oi you're not in your planet(country) now so be brave " . Anyway I am working at College for more than 3 years now . GOOD LUCK and Be Brave!

I like that notion, I always wanted a job with a seat, my very first job age 15 was in retail, in a garden centre :D

There was a poignant TV programme on last night on how immigrants are an integral part of the NHS. Anyone see it. There were a a good few Filipinos in it.
    So yes, the NHS.

She is still working as a waitress part-time, and working at IKEA. We are looking into fostering.

    Hi Larry,
When my wife arrived in the UK, she got a National Insurance number then went to employment agencies.
She was working and earning good money quite quickly.
She is now working as a sorter at the Royal Mail.
She also worked as a full time employee for a while - as a house keeper at Premier Inn but that was back-breaking.
The N.I number is the ticket to ride to earn money fast though.
