We are about to attend the C.F.O. Seminar in Cebu its run by plainclothes Nuns and has quite a reputation for asking impudent and irrelavant questions as well as amounts of paperwork, documents Photos etc that would make any beaurocracy proud.

The Nuns dont charge the government for this so get given a pretty free hand and there have been reports of ladies being reduced to tears

I have decided to tackle this whilst im still here and my origional documents are with us both, would have been tomorrow but Jhean informed me that its Constitution day today and a holiday and we cant fit registration of our marriage collecting a passport all in the time frame of tomorrow with the all day seminar heh hum

The atendance sticker or stamp is only given after an entry visa is given but the certificate of attendance can be got at any time it also covers overseas workers.

I will explore the website you mentioned but my current understanding is that you can apply for a settlement visa with the name that currently appears in your wifes passport along with the marriage certificate of course a fiance visa goes without saying.

The reason apart from unessasary expence for us is that Jheans daughter will of course have the same surname on her passport and for me that feels less complicated by the time it comes up for renewal hopefully Micky will be my adopted daughter and can also carry our family name.

Howerd im interested in your staement that you cant see her again untill her annulment perhaps you would elaborate:like:

Keith, the important thing to remember (and I guess that this should have been highlighted before attending the CFO) is that altho' the nuns ask the questions, they also don't know the answers !
So, basically as long as you look confident & calm giving the answer......
Q: "How many brothers has he"
    A: "Three"
Q: "What are their names ?"
    A: "Tom, Dick, & Harry"

....but you are right, some of the questions they ask are intrusive, demeaning, and inappropriate.

When my wife was attending (in Cebu), one of the nuns targeted one of the younger Filipina's who'd married a much, much older man.
"So, how's your sex life ?" she asked in front of the other attendees......
"Better than your's" was the immediate retort.
    Superb !

Well, as the good Catholic boy you are Dom, I'll bow to your better knowledge on that one.

.... but it does remind me of the joke......
"What's the difference between a nun and a woman in the bath ?"
.... the nun has hope in her soul.
    ;)

Well shes back and as I understand it a visa in the passport is all that is required to get the seminar certificate and on to the cfo for the sticker

Our mates missus got knocked back as he had been named on a fiance visa to the states over a year ago His intended broke the engagement and didnt use the visa he had painstakingly aquired now they are saying they want a meeting with his Wife and ex fiance why and whoes business it is heaven knows not very comfortable for his missus either

I will update as the information gets dribbed out but good news i think

Thanks KeithAngel, I did not realise the seminar was conducted by nuns! Like your friend, I am somewhat older than my intended - 30 years and 2 days to be exact!

The problem about visiting with my lady friend is that it is a criminal offence in the Philippines to have a relationship outside of marriage. I don't want to jeoparidise our future together because of her jealous husband putting a stop to the annulment, demanding money from a 'rich' Englishman or, even worse, reporting her to the authorities.

Erm :erm:, it's a criminal offense to have a relationship with a married woman, not I think to have a relationship without being married?

But you're right in your case better safe than sorry.

Ah, I did not make myself quite clear! I meant to say it is a criminal offence to have a relationship outside of marriage, whilst still married!

So does every Pinay who leaves the Philippines have to attend one of these Q&A's from the nuns? Like, say after myself and Joy are married?

Ah several points to answer first Sean your lady wont have to face that as the seminar in Manila is not in the hands of imaginary friend devotees only the Cebu one as there are only two places where possible if you have to travel Manila is the place of choice

Howerd I fully understand your position have been in it myself with a failed relationship and whilst I appreciate your concern there are many workrounds that mean you dont have to spend so long without seeing one another.

The obvious one is to "without telling" anyone else meet far from your intendeds home area a nice beach resort for example and of course dont facebook it Only your i.D. will be recorded

If her ex already is aware of you no garantee of not being shaken down exists the basic deal with Annulment is that the respondant stays mute and that no collusion can be shown any variation of this and delays will and do become interminable, If he is already aware and likely to rock your boat and you are prepared to do a "deal" the key bit is that any "reward" is only made after completion of the Annulment

You may also be aware that if the Ex,s whereabouts have not been known for 7 years a case of presumtive death may be made thus side stepping the need for the annulment

I guess in that case the there would be no issue if your lady has kids that need to leave with her but in an annulment it gets more tricky as the ex would have to agree to there leaving the Phils even if your now wife has sole custody the Philipoines Family Law acts are a veritable mine field that need traversing carefully and with a clear plan that takes into account how to arrive at ALL your aims:like:

Quoting myself just to reset the topic as a fair bit of other ground got covered

Well its 5 days since the seminar and the fall out is just subsiding as we managed to talk about the experience

As I get it these Nuns are very undermining of our relationships especialy if the age gap is 15 years plus

They suggest that we guys are just looking for a "Care giver"

    Slave

and that our previous caring towards our ladies will almost certainly change to reveal our true demonic nature ones our ladies have left these hallowed and nuturing shores

I was particularly delighted with the near certantity of turning into a Wife beater presumably the dear Nuns as well as my Honey know this at the hands of thier Fathers as representatives of all Men

They also amusingly question the participants as to if they had dollar savings in there own accounts now so they can do a runner if things get tough and sugested this is a prime requisite for leaving to join ones husband, they recount tales of daily calls for help from near imprisioned Filipinas desperate to return to these caring and compasionate shores

Its taken Jhean the last days to process this assault and we are still dealing with the fallout

So heres a big thankyou to all you loverly Nuns of Cebu long may you frighten your Sisters and keep them safe from all harm :beat:

You would think if they were that concerned about this they would be desperate to hold this seminar before the marriage rather than after the marriage.

Sounds like they are selling the notion that everyone would be better off if they just all joined the sisterhood ;) :D

I was brought up in the faith and taught by Nun's in primary school, some of them were very scary, our headmistress Sister Scholastica was a real battleaxe and scared the wilies out of me :D
