Nothing wrong with that..Stick a solar panel on the roof and you will be the local eco friendly hero.

There are Tesla's all over the town I live in, seriously, there are two that park in the business estate where our office is.

I've seen others (many different colours) elsewhere in the town.

I assume the ones I saw are not model 3 cars as they would not be available yet, so there is a hell of a lot of money kicking around here.

'A pound down and a pound a week', and we can all have one. ;)

Super..I'd have one. As soon as they become really popular our stupid UK government will slap a high road tax on them...to make up for the lost fuel duty.

I absolutely love the wiff of diesel fumes on a chilly morning....

Whilst I appreciate the technology in a car of such magnitude, I seriously think that there is something the manufacturers are not telling us, and don't want us to know at any cost.

Besides.... The more electric cars on the road, the more fossil fuels will be burnt to produce the electricity needed to recharge them I reckon..........

I suppose, generally, the "Pros" will outstrip the "Cons", but not ever enough for me to be converted.
Probably because I am grumpy by nature...

The fuel cycle for power stations is far more efficient than the equivalent fuel cycle of petrol or diesel cars.

Taking into account the full extraction processing and delivery of energy, electric vehicles win hands down.

Fossil fuel vehicles have a mechanical efficiency of about 25% in other words they turn 25% of the energy in the fuel into the work that makes the car move, contrast that with greater than 75% mechanical efficiency for electric vehicles (even higher with regenerative braking).

And on the CO2 emissions side electric vehicles emit less than half the CO2 of fossil fuel vehicles, in addition you don't get all the particulates and other chemical pollution at street level that results from Fossil fuel vehicles.

Couple that with renewable energy and you have a solution for the other argument that people have about renewable energy which is the that often power generation from renewables goes to waste, while true to some extent today this would be less true if the demand from a national fleet of Electric vehicles was mopping up all that previously wasted generation capacity. There are other schemes under way to store renewable power anyway but greater demand would also be a significant help.

That just comes with the motors electric motors have lots of torque, you don't have to do anything very fancy to get any electric car to have that kind of performance.

And some of us like the performance, my S2000 could only manage 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds, it was fun when it did it though.

    Yes that's all true.

    BUT

Figures released today show that in 2018 UK carbon emissions dropped to their lowest level since 1888 (outside the 1921 and 1926 general strikes):

Far from the alarmist picture painted by a few thousand children last month, over the past seven years, the UK has seen its fastest sustained fall in CO2 emissions in history. And since 1990 Carbon emissions in the UK have fallen faster than in any other major economy in the world.

We had the discussion before about solar grid tie tariffs in the UK being cut..No more new feed in tariffs after March 31 this year.. So much for UK being Eco friendly, planet saving, anti global warming tree huggers eh!
Forget the grid tie...Charge the Tesla up, at least until the UK come up with an act of parliament making it illegal.
