Let's hope they improve under Terry Butcher. At least he has a history of being passionate in the game.
I see the draw for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 in Dubai is this Friday and the Philippines are in pot 4. http://www.the-afc.com/news/afcsection/seedings-confirmed-for-afc-asian-cup-uae-2019-draw
Cool thanks. The Mrs is now getting into football and screams at the TV during games like she does watching the warriors playing basketball (her favourite team and sport) so I think she will like to watch the Philippines trying to play. I’m sure she will be screaming at the tv when they are playing also
Oh dear - methinks Mike needs spectacles! If you have a read of the Wiki page mentioned above, the first three games are identified (scroll down to near the bottom of the page ) 7th January 2019 against South Korea in Dubai 11th January against China in Abu Dhabi 16th January against Kyrgystan in Dubai There are three British-Filipinos in the team: the Younghusband brothers (Phil is the captain) and Cardiff City goal keeper, Neil Etheridge.
I once watched a World Cup on the TV in Vietnam. I hadn't heard so many screams before - the ladies there made all the noise...…..as does my wife in the UK when someone shoots at goal or suchlike Must be an Asian trait
That's a massive job for someone , to get funding , and build the footballing profile of the Philippines up . Would be nice to see some filipino footballers become famous , I ve only ever heard of one in the English league . The goalkeeper Neil Etheridge , who is currently with Cardiff after bouncing around the lower leagues previously . I wonder where Terry Butcher will pop up next .
It's a strange one, that's for sure. Butcher's a football man. He knows that foreign managers who do to Asia and Africa are generally there for a year. Two years, tops. There is no chance of them creating a Ferguson, Wenger or even Joachim Low type dynasty. They do their best with the talent at their disposal and move on. Leaving because the "right systems aren't in place" is pretty vague. One training session a year? A crappy domestic league? What is he expecting from a poor football minnow nation? Did the PFF really sell Terry the San Juanico Bridge? Sounds like his replacement, this Scott Cooper guy, will just accept things for what they are in SE Asia. Just another nomadic white guy in foreign football lands. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Cooper_(football_manager)
In another surprising move, a certain Sven Goran Eriksson has signed a 6 month deal to 'assist' Scott Cooper during the AFF Suzuki Cup. Sven has become a 'follow the money' kind of guy in recent years. There's probably a reason that none of the big/medium sized teams in Europe have barely considered him for a job in the past 10 years.
