The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised the alert status over Taal Volcano to Alert Level 3 after it generated a kilometer-high phreatomagmatic plume on Thursday, July 1.

My kids were down near Taal a few weeks ago and I warned them to get back to Manila as quick as they could as Taal was getting restless again.

I remember watching a program about a team of volcanologists who died while near a volcano that was popping off, I remember thinking they should have been more clued up on pyroclastic flows.

Yeah they were being driven by a friend of the family, but trying to get into and out of Tagaytay quickly is not always easy.

I think that was the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption in Washington State, USA.
