Unwittingly I believe you have hit the nail on the head. In Spain, as one was able to in UK , if one says something to emphasise a point it does not bring down silly allegations that one is being racist. I am dual Irish and British. I have no silly racist objections if some tells for example a joke about Englishmen, Irishmen etc.. It's joke. Same as if they make a comment to the effect that something is stupid so it must be Irish. We all know that is a joke. If I were black, Jewish, Asian, Chinese, ginger, etc instead of being a white honky, I would not take stupid offence at remarks which are not a intended to be a personal attack on me. Unfortunately if one says almost anything in UK they are like to 'offend' some section. Which is frequently quite funny (odd) as say a black man can say something which everyone accepts as his opinion or as a joke, but if a white person says exactly the same thing minorities are up in arms.
