Hi, hope everyone is safe and well. We are currently locked down here in the Phils. and this year is the renewal of my FLR visa to ILR. I'm only panicking cos I don't know when is this outbreak be over, we should be back to the UK by April. Before ILR application, I have to renew my passport with a name change but that is something I can't do at the moment. So, in case this outbreak continues for feeeew moooore months (hopefully not), will UK kicked me out for not being able to renew my visa? Do I really need to change my passport name for ILR just because I'vstarted using hubby surename on my banks, HRMC, GP's and to my son? I don't know if I have enough time til October to renew passport and take the Life in UK test for ILR if ever things don't really get back to normal in the next months. I might be too negative but I rather know and be prepared when this time will come. Thank you in advance for any advices. Xx

We are preparing for ILR in October 2020 and my wife has not changed her passport to her married name nor will she.
We will be applying for British Citizenship in January 2021 and her UK passport will be in her married name.
    Good luck with your application

Just 're read your post you do not take " life in the UK " test for ILR, it is taken for British Citizenship which is applied for once you've got ILR.
Is your ILR due in October?
How long have you been outside the UK in the last 12 months to date?

Incorrect, Life in UK is a requirement for ILR.
The ILR Visa application will require the pass certificate no.

As I understand it is if you are an EU citizen and want settlement in the UK you must take the life test if you are going through the visa process then you take the test at British Citizenship.

No, Life in UK is a requirement for ILR.

There are certain routes for others with which Citizernship is only applied and at that stage life in the UK must have been taken.

There is a exemption to Life in UK knowledge if 15 years has passed amongst other requirements.

My wifes recent ILR required Life in UK test cert, but more recent tests may now be reliant on the test pass being recorded on a database?

    Thank you!
As far as I know, you can only apply citizenship one year after ILR...if I'm not wrong.

If married to British citizen can do it after ILR. Think all other categories have to wait a year.

You can apply as soon as you have one of the following:
    • indefinite leave to remain in the UK

Having gone through all this already, I can confirm:

You need the Life in the UK test for ILR.

You can apply for Citizenship as soon as you have ILR if you are married to a British Citizen.

One exemption for Life in the UK test is when your British partner passed away prior to your ILR application.Am I right on this?

If your partner passes away after having qualified for previous Family Visa, then you can apply for settlement.

There may be a requirement to notify a change in circumstances sooner than later?
