Its started again,Driving around the West Midlands today, the queues at Petrol Filling Stations are a throwback to the 1980,s but the issue today is there are less Filling Stations and more motorists, Personally i think the ****e is about to hit the fan we cant just magic up more HGV Drivers, so get ready for more empty shelves and shortages of materials which will in turn lead to even more higher prices.
Although I been brassed off with the masses of Eastern European workers in the U.K., I believe sincerely that we should never have tinkered with our place within the EU. As you say the ***e is hitting the fan just now. With everything. The pandemic has simply exacerbated the problem. They are talking about bringing in swarms of EU workers to drive the lorrys, by elevating their status to skilled workers.
Move to North Wales............. lots of fuel available, My local supermarkets have full shelves, no shortage of anything. We refrained from panic buying at the beginning of the pandemic, and we were right, as we were never short of anything. Personally I do not think that Brexit has much to do with the situation at hand.
Morrisons 10 days ago. Lidl 3 weeks ago. It's not just Brexit but Brexit has definitely made all kinds of supply chains less resilient and I agree with you it could get bad. In my industry our customers have been struggling all year to get raw material supplies.
who can remember the rationing scare in the 70's ? it was mooted drivers would have to produce their cars log book to get a ration card to buy petrol. So people were panic buying any old bangers and scrappers just to get extra log books. Then the rationing scare went away.

My father did not believe in cars, a car would have interfered with his drinking, so while I remember petrol shortages it wasn't from personal family experience, I do remember the lights going out at 10pm and the TV schedules being modified to shut down and do the national anthem at 10pm ish.
We've spent the North Sea now in large part at the alter of Thatcher's attack on the Unions in the 1980s while it will still be producing for a good while it will never again be what it was. Whereas Norway invested their North Sea in a huge sovereign wealth fund for their future.
More or less, yes. The North Sea isn’t completely dead yet. You might have heard about the newly discovered Cambo field where they are wondering if it’s best left in the ground and there are areas further out that look promising but much of the low hanging fruit has been picked. And as you say, Norway invested the oil money wisely. There is still shale gas / oil but it remains to be seen if it ever gets touched. Morecambe Bay was a massive gas find for British Gas but my understanding is that there’s little to nothing left of it. It’s all been used to heat our homes with and great while it lasted. A lot of the gas fields off Yarmouth have been and gone. The Rough Field that you may have heard about in the news (Gas storage) was one of them. I believe we do receive gas from Norway - we are a customer of theirs. Apologies there. I spelled Cambo incorrectly. How remiss of me.
You maybe don’t remember Sheik Yamani? He was the feller behind it all, bringing the west to its knees. He was in every news bulletin back in the day. I don’t blame him as he was trying to strike the best deal for the Saudis as until then they had been screwed into the ground by us in the west on oil prices. It certainly caught our attention on the forecourts of Britain.
Yeah I remember the name from that era and I agree the west was ripping them off and had been for decades.
