    Hi,
We arrived at this pensionne as we have many times before but I must say this small hotel has gone down in my estimation.
Last night the aircon went off twice - at 03:15 and then at 03:50.
It is controlled by inserting the key in the slot.
Well, when I was awakened twice like that I could not get back to sleep.
This place used to be so good but it seems to have gone downhill now.

If anyone knows of a reasonably priced alternative, please reply.
If possible one that has wifi.
    Thanks.

    I'm sorry to hear about.
Sometimes it happens that changes don't always meet our expectations. Especially with hotels.

Sorry I can't offer anything else. I've had some terrible hotel experiences in Cebu.
Just don't know it well enough.

I'm sure some of our Cebu members will be along soon.
Take care of yourselves and stay positive. Look after those little ones

To be honest, it is the Philippines...

One day things are fine, the next day everything goes wrong.

One day your hotel serves the perfect breakfast, the next day the brewed coffee tastes 10 years old, the bacon is 98% fat, and the egg is a scrambled fried egg disaster.

You have stayed at the same place many times before, so you need to sort it out with the hotel staff, ask for a better room.

Sadly so many of the gems of independant hotels are being destroyed by the likes of Opodo and Trip advisor.

I have the same experience of staying in a hotel in Cebu booked online and thought everything will be perfected as planned. One day everything's OK and then next day terrible, and I mean terrible. Its a 4 story but has no elevator and rooms from 1st to 3rd floors are de luxe ( we stayed here) accommodation and is more expensive.
Normally in some hotels so long as you are paying in advance you can opt to extend if you wanted to stay longer. But this hotel we are at,you can't. They will tell you it is already booked and you need to transfer to another room, and worst thing could happen, you can't be accommodated if there's no available room as they had already booked the room you are staying at,to another client.OK fine!As i planned to transfer to a near the airport hotel, but last minute decision to stay.
Next room on the ground floor was okay, first plate of breakfast meal very OK, I'm surprised its plateful and cost less.Started to think, we will stay here again when we can.
Next room was bigger and clean. And after stuff are transferred we went out for dinner come back to shower ...guess what??? I WAS ALMOST ELECTROCUTED!! THE SHOWER IS GROUNDED!
CALLED up front desk and requested a technician to come up and check it out. When he came in I asked him a straight forward question. ARE YOU AWARE THAT THE INSTALLED SHOWER AT THIS ROOM IS DEFECTIVE????
I think he was caught unaware I would ask that question... HE ANSWERED.... YES MA'AM!!! ( IMAGINE THAT!!!)
me: And why did you make this room available?
Technician: Ma'am this is the way to hold this hose?
Me:Whatttt?? And did you guys advised us in advance? Why don't you try take a shower here and see how dangerous it could be.Go find us another room.
Me called up frontdesk: hello good evening, are you aware that room 207 's shower is blah blahblah, please find Us a new room to transfer to.I won't risk my life and my family with a defective shower.
Receptionist:ma'am I'm sorry but we can't transfer you as all rooms are fully booked and reserved.
Me: DO YOU KNOW THAT I CAN CHARGE YOU ABOUT THIS.?I CAN FILE A CASE AGAINST THE MANAGEMENT ...THIS IS" NEGLIGENCE"
receptionist: yea ma'am, I will contact management now ,ill call you back.
After. A while she called back and telling me we can have the vacant floor on the 4th floor.I said , are you kidding me? No I don't like there because I paid deluxe accommodation to stay on the lower floors. She said , but we have no more rooms as it is already reserved.
ME: THAT'S NOT MY PROBLEM,ITS YOUR PROBLEM! IF YOU CANT FIND US A SAFER ROOM, Then expect me to file a case against this hotel's management and I am not kidding!!
receptionist: OK ma'am we will find a way to transfer you. Will call you back.
After a while she called back ma'am we decided to transfer the reservation to the 4th floor and you can now transfer to the 3 rd floor but it has no shower.
me:eek:kay thank you but please inform the management about this incident!
Terrible experience... We still are booked at the same hotel until Tuesday noon :(

Sorry to hear that, Nickel. Been living in Cebu for a few years but I'm afraid the hotel's name doesn't ring a bell. The latest one I've been is not the best but an okay hotel was Castle Peak in Mabolo.

I stayed at The Metro Park Hotel in Lahug 3 times and also got married and had our reception there. Always good. Any niggles are dealt with straight away.

I stayed at Castle Peak one time, nothing special.

I always liked the Golden Peak hotel, not that far from Ayala shopping mall, everything seemed to work OK there, and nice professional staff.

(No need to wear rubber boots in the shower at Golden Peak) :D

Holiday Spa is clean and I like to have a swim in their clear swimming pool each day. Sarossa in Mabolo also has a gym/pool and quite decent rooms. Best place I've actually stayed wasn't a hotel which was city lights, very nicely furnished condo.

Interestingly we haven't stayed at hotels the last 2 visits. Asawas parents actually provide us with an airconned room. Don't think I could sleep comfortably without aircon.

We haven't stayed in Cebu City. However the Blue Orchid resort in Moalboal, Cebu is very good and quite reasonably priced with very nice coral, sea life and surroundings.
The place next door is also nice. http://www.halemanna.com/

We turned up at Loves dive resort in Moalboal unannounced. After a quick check of the basic but clean room we decided to stay a couple of days. It was only when we came back to the room after spending the day out, we walked in and i said wheres the bloody telly! I did say it was basic and totally overlooked we had no TV upon the initial inspection  Nice nonetheless.

personally I go to a dive resort for the coral, the drink and the twelve hours of experimental sex. TV isn't really on the agenda :)

back in about 2006-7 I used to stay at Pacific Pensionne all the time. Back then it was only about 700, but it was annoyingly one of those places that charged extra for double occupancy. So you would check in with somebody stay for a couple of nights and pay 800 then they might take a ferry back to Leyte or somewhere. So you would go to the desk next day to pay and say I'm only paying 700 tonight, the girl I checked in with she's gone. Ridiculous.

then in about 2009-10, they abruptly raised their prices to a totally ridiculous level. Like about 1,200 or something really silly. When the rooms were only barely worth 7-800 in the first place. They are so small you can't swim a cat in them. Restaurant was also not anything to write home about either, although the staff, as usual, were nice. So I stopped staying there after that.

the immeadiate area went downhill for me too at about the same time. They demolished the HARRISON PARK entertainment area opposite the PP where they had live bands and good videoke and also a good pinoy eatery. And the Fuente area deteriorated even more. It got even seedier and worse.

Cebu city should be really be avoided anyway. Even when I did spend longish periods there I never really liked it. It's just horrible. The only thing it had going for it was skirt-chasing. These days I purposefully give it a wide berth and typically during my 120 odd days in the Visayas each year I only spend a handful of them in Cebu city - I have a few mates who live there and sometimes go and stay in their houses and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't bother with it at all..

Metro Park is one of only two hotels within Metro Cebu with a swimming pool that sell rooms for under 1000. That is aircon, too. The other one is Villa Teresita in Talisay that still apparently sells fan rooms for 800.

there is a select band of other places to stay on Cebu island with swimming pool for under 1000. Here they are :

Compostela Pension House 800 use of pool 100pp extra

    Green Lagoon Compostela 1000 fan

    Shem hotel, Toledo 750-950 aircon

Sunshine Pension House Moalboal, fan 800

Viar Family Resort, Tuburan fan 600 pool 50pp extra

Coal Kay Mountain Resort Argao 850 fan

Spring Park Mountain Resort, Lutopan 500 fan, 1000 aircon

    Santiago Resort, Camotes 1000 fan

Comotes is not on Cebu island but is an island in its own right.
