By all account, the Philippine government, through senator Raffy Tulfo is pushing to introduced a new requirement with immediate effect.
In order for any foreigner to marry in the Phillipines it is proposed that they must undergo a mandatory neuro-psychiatric evaluation and drug testing before being granted marriage permits.
This is a result of a recent murder of a Philippina after marrying a Slovakian. The proposals have the support of the Phillipine Dept of Foreign Affairs.

Not sure mine would have passed!

Suppose I shouldn't make light of this.

The truth is though, it'll be open to abuse as everything else is here - envelope full of money and certificate will be issued post haste.

    Nice kneejerk reaction too.

One (horrid poriner) bloke murders a Filipina, and a new law is proposed ? Erm.gif

So sad and we have read about things like this in the news, many times.
Why do these things happen so often?
It is heart-breaking for the families back in the Philippines :(

The problem with this, it is only targeting foreigners marrying Philippinas. Unless I’m mistaken, more Philippina OFWs have been murdered, particularly in the Middle East, than those marrying foreigners ? Since I met the wife and subsequently taken an interest in the Philippines, I have read of many OFWs found murdered by their employers.

    I don't get this.
Women can be difficult at times, even if they hit you in an argument and I'm not saying that she did that in the argument before she lost her life, men need to WALK AWAY...no matter what she said or did

Yes, some Filipinas can have a bad temper....
It is interesting that "tampo" is not too far removed from "temper" :rolleyes:o_O
In this case, of course, there is no doubting the fact that a young Filipina was horrifically murdered by a man wielding a knife.

It's just another Filipino politician trying to prop themselves up by for re-election or higher office by riding popular news trends or current events instead of tackling the more important issues such as say Chinese incursion, corruption, poverty, etc.

Not saying this isn't important, but adding this requirement to all foreigners who wants to get married to Filipinos is like instantly tagging them as criminals or mentally unstable.
And why is it just the foreign partner who has to undergo it?

It will be like you are presuming the foreign partner as guilty already.

    This is plain silly.

More a case of 'buyer beware' then.

Tragic as this case is, one cannot change some (stupid ?) human behaviour with laws.

Consider how many thousands upon thousands of 'separated' Filipinas are having adulterous ILLEGAL affairs with both locals and foreigners. An example of how effective the legal system is in the Phils ?

This isn’t “just another politician” Tulfo is huge in Philippines, very very influential because he is renowned for helping ordinary people. He is more like a celebrity.
Also as we all know the “assumption of innocence” definitely does not apply in the Philippines. Their prisons are overcrowded with people thrown in there for years, awaiting trial and quite often innocent ! In the Philippines it’s guilty until they can be bothered to prove you innocent !

Clearly as the alleged murderer lived with her (the victim) and her family for 3 months in the Philippines before they both went on holiday in Europe

Gosh! You can never tell who are good by just looking at people’s faces who are psycho or normal.

Fortunately most of our relationships thrive and endure, once we understand what is considered normal behaviour by our sweet Filipina partners. ;)
