We're planning to apply for the fiancee visa, I already have an appointment for the TB test and I know that for the English test I would need to take the LifeSkills. However, can anyone advise me which one to take? Is it A1 or A2?

Don't worry about grammar and study too much. The A1 test is just a very basic spoken test just to ensure you have a basic knowledge of English.

Prepo...what? Don't worry about that stuff. If you know your name and what you had for breakfast you're half way there already.

No need to memorize scripts. Just focus on the questions during the exam. 1st and 3rd parts (in my experience) were just plain conversations. I think it's to test if you can understand and converse in English.

That's what I thought before I went through the test. It wasn't as easy as that for me. :(

@bigmac I am now confused with IELTS. Still clueless about the ielts before applying FLR although I shouldn't worry for now.

my wife got her first flr in may 9 after we got married )--and did not have to take any ielts test.

The Prime Minister announced on 18 January a new English language requirement for family route migrants seeking to extend their stay in the UK.

Non-EEA national partners and parents on the family route will need to pass a speaking and listening test at level A2 in order to qualify, after two-and-a half-years in the UK, for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.

.... The government recognises the need to give those affected sufficient time to prepare for the new test which is why the new requirement will not be implemented before October 2016. It will therefore not affect those required to apply for further leave to remain before then.

    See link: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-a2-english-requirement-in-the-family-route

I've just read this. I could be wrong.
