For spouse visa application the present CEFR Level score needed is A1 in English (Speaking and Listening)

then for citizenship level B1 in English (Speaking and Listening)

If you take and pass the B1 IELTS life skills (Speaking and Listening) and use for your 1st spouse visa application, it will still be valid for all other visa and citizenship applications (the validity date doesn't matter once the qualification has previously been successfully used for 1st visa application).

Save money and time by studying B1 level and passing!

Avoid wasting money by taking A1, then having to take B1 later......

I do not know if the maximum grade awarded for A1 is A1, even if you actually meet a higher level?
If the life skills only offer pass or fail, then taking the general training you will be awarded the actual level of your capability.

    Alternatively,
The IELTS general training tests speaking, listening, writing, reading, but they are marked individually and a overall grade awarded. For spouse visa, only the speaking and listening grades are considered for spouse visa.

So if you take a general test, you would be graded at your actual ability and could be valid for all later visa applications dependant on your success level / grade.

I got a B2 in academic. Do I need to retake the test when I apply for FLR? I'm confused.

You don't need to retake test as you have exceeded the minimum requirement, but the test result must have been used and accepted for 1st visa application.
Academic level difficulty is higher than General Training.
Any retake of tests would need to meet current level requirements, approved course and examination organisation.

Hi Jhen. I went there during my lunch break. It took me almost an hour just to get there from Makati. The traffic was really bad!!! Grr!!! I showed them my passport then they handed me the certificate. It's just one copy though. The result just "PASS".

They made this announcement early this year and made exemptions to people who've applied for an extension on settlement visa before October 2016. To answer your question, I guess A1 only applies to people who are applying for an ENTRY UK SETTLEMENT VISA. A2 is only applicable when you're applying for an extension (FLR or Further Leave to Remain) which means you're already in the UK by then.

Hi tipipay, thanks for that and I thought the same - we're yet to apply but the A2 is for after you're already in the UK and not as One World's post reads.
Cool, will book A1 for the Spouse visa, cheers :like:

Hey guys, sorry I keep replying to different threads, but I always have questions :frust:

Why is it that the IELTS Life Skills confirmation email I got says there is a writing test scheduled (8AM) but IELTS resources on the Internet say that there are no writing/reading tests for Like Skills? I believe I scheduled the right exam - I am taking Life Skills B1. I noticed @joi1991 had the same issue, but the resolution was not posted.

Update: Figured it out, guys. I was sent the wrong email. For anyone still unsure, Life Skills B1 is just a speaking and listening test, usually scheduled in the afternoon (Manila).

I took the academic instead of life skills that's why i had to do the writing and reading exam which is irrelevant for the required test.
Glad you figured it out already.
