That’s a good question. I had been using work boots and then some cheap trainers. Now I am using a pair of Clark’s shoes. The Clark’s shoes are proving the comfiest. I had been considering some insoles.

It doesn’t take much of anything to replace burnt calories. That’s the catch.

@JohnAsh so what is your carb intake on a typical day in grammes?

I don’t count every gram. I know many who do. I just guestimate and aim for a maximum of 130 grams per day spread reasonably evenly throughout the day. However I know that often that figure is often less than that, probably nearer 70 grams per day on some days. Mrs Ash is nearer 70 grams per day at the moment. Neither of us are at Keto levels even though we eat Keto recipes. So neither of us are in fat burning mode.

For fat burning mode one needs to be down at the 30 grams per day level.

I don’t count every gram of carbs but I make sure that the percentages are low on whatever it is that I / we eat.

That meal of yours (breakfast?) seemed pretty tight on the carbs. And yet I would enjoy a breakfast like that and wouldn’t feel hungry after, especially if a couple of low carb sausages were added to the platter.

Mrs Ash’s wedding ring is slipping off her finger now as she loses weight. And importantly she never is hungry.

From top left : Low Carb Cottage Pie made with a celeriac and shredded cheese topping instead of potatoes.

Keto strawberry muffin cake loaf (almond flour, egg, coconut oil etc ) 3grams of carbs per slice.

    Keto raspberry muffin cake loaf

Keto trifle made with an egg and double cream custard, sugar free jelly, berries, toasted almonds and low carb sponge, topped with thick double cream.

I eat a lot of yoghurt. Buckets full of it. But plain Greek yoghourt with 5 to 10% fat. I add berries and double cream to it. I buy it by the 1kg pot. Mrs Ash doesn’t touch it as she is lactose intolerant.

Cheese isn’t quite the demon it has been seen as in the last few decades. I was frightened off it for years but not any more. I eat quite a bit these days. I tend to finish a meal with cheese these days on most days and am not afraid of it anymore.

Yep, Mrs Ash can’t eat cheese or drink milk etc or it gives her an upset stomach. She had some Philadelphia soft cheese the other day and was okay though.

We have quite a few Thai and a few pinas in the family, sadly none can handle dairy products in their diet.

Started my Keto diet last week, Skipped bread, pasta and spuds, now eating low fiber and plenty eggs, cheese, leafy greens and protein. But I had constipation for 3 days and my stomach swelled up. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal :D but there are ways to deal with it.

    • Artificial sweetners are good laxatives but don’t eat too much / many.
    • Make sure you drink plenty of water.
    • Cheese will bung you up if you eat to much. That happened to me.
    • Add psyllium husk to your food.
    • Don’t cut back the green veggies too much
There is a tendency to take in less liquid on a low carb diet. Take potatoes - boiled potatoes contain water. Rice contains water when consumed. So giving up rice and spuds for example reduces the amount of water we take in.

I had a hard time to begin with but not now having upped the green veggies a little and not quite so much cheese. Psyllium husk is highly recommended.

We moved into a new build house and I am sure the bore of the sewage pipes leaving the pan are as narrow as they possibly could be without breaching regulations but the blocking of the toilet was an everyday occurrence which angered Mrs Ash. This isn’t happening anymore. Also Mrs Ash isn’t having this problem as she doesn’t eat cheese and doesn’t stint on the green veggies.

Don’t forget the berries such as blueberries or strawberries. But I am guessing they aren’t too readily available in the Philippines?

Yes. I knew about that. But wasn’t sure how available they were island wide?

I have seen pictures of my sister in law picking strawberries in Baguio. There was one pic of her in a house there and it had a fireplace and chimney like you might expect here in the U.K.
