I’m a bit of a workaholic and the wife is getting in my ear about being left on her own ( she works full time but I’m working morning to night). She only wants to go anywhere if im with her, she doesn’t drive, I’m thinking she needs a filipina friend to hang out with. Are there any english/filipina couples in Devon that are experiencing similar?
Easiest, would be to attend Church, but with the Virus restrictions, it is a bit more difficult nowadays. One has to be careful. as pinays that came over as nurses or a work visa/permit can be very off hand and spiteful with the ones that arrived with marriage or fiancee visas... Besides, I experienced some kind of Island cultural divisions... Tagalog and Bisaya, mainly
Lot of rivalry between pinays here, seen it often, who has the best house, car, goes back home most often, some get suplada and tsismosa but there's bad apples in every barrel
Sick and tired of hearing "she has got new iPhone"... "New Samsung", "they have new car", big TV,... etc. etc... I normally answer, Is yours still working>? Why do you want another if it does. On the whole, my wife does see reason, but on the bags and shoes department, it is another kettle of fish...
Yes I've seen that mentality a lot among my wife's cousins. It's rather pathetic. In my experience it's very common for people without any real financial substance to become materialistic when they get just a little spending money. People with real '**** you' money generally don't discuss what they may have bought since its generally considered vulgar. Indeed many extremely rich people don't spend much at all. A good friend of mine drives around in an old minivan, uses an old TV, and has more money than he knows what to do with. Go figure. As we all know any wally can spend money. It's easy. Its the accumulatuon of money that's hard - and that gift seems to be beyond many Filipino people that I've encountered - with the possible exception of that crook Marcos.
Oh - and although my wife is always on the lookout sadly we are a long ways from Devon. Try a church in a nearby town?
