Think its both although he is not specific on the (spouse only)dependant visa journey.
I think what he is trying to address amongst other things is a spouse visa applicant or and a work visa applicant bringing numerous dependants with them ie uncle bob anty Jill and children etc etc these dependants currently will eventually get ILR on the dependants ticket and then become a potential burden to the welfare system. He seems to be proposing that these would need to meet a criteria before progressing to BC or ILR if they as individuals cannot meet the criteria its time to leave

The most frightening thing is that this idiot is currently leading the polls.

It is possible that he is missing the point on immigration and showing his hand too much here because he is showing what he really is.

What about all the Japanese people here who choose to live on ILR because Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship? Is that really his main target? The Japanese?

    The man is a fool.

Plus, this does nothing to stop people coming across the channel on dinghies - which, I'm pretty sure, is people's main concern with immigration - but the thick people whose votes he is targeting will think it does. Just like they thought Brexit would get rid of Asians.

Have you tried to get Citizenship or claim 'asylum' in the Philippines...or Japan, for that matter ?
    Good luck with that.

Mr. Farage is trying to help make up for 60 years of the stupidity of others.

Farage is not a fool. He has known for years how to rouse the rabble and feed them what they want to hear and no real change with the latest. He isn't particularly bothered about who gets harmed so long as he gets support and votes and thinks he can see the potential for power. Policy doesn't have to make sense so long as he gets votes to get him into power. Just have to have enough mugs believing in him and that everything will get better when he gets in power/achieves his aim.

Underestimate him at your peril. Got alone knows what his real agenda will be if he gets into power and sure he will throw appropriate morsals to his fan base if he gets in.

Brexit is what got him his initial power base. With that gone he needs a new theme which is immigration and the boats. Seems to have forgotten that this is a benefit of Brexit in that prior to Brexit we could send them back to France.

One can moan about the French not taking them back but to be honest the French have no legal requirement to take them back - that went with Brexit. Crossing the channel gets rid of some of them and to honest if the position was reversed I'm sure we wouldn't be signing up take them back so can't really complain about that.

Think the real question we should be asking us what is the real hidden agenda of Farage if he gets into power.

Based on his love of Trump then can expect something out of that play book to generate political wins for the hard core fan base. Extreme policies from a set of yes men and women MPs for at least 5 years assuming that do get an opportunity to get him out at the 5 year point.

The UK has had about 60 years of immigration that nobody was asked about and nobody voted for.

Farage is trying to sort it out - he's a bit late but at least he is trying to do something about the problem.

It's alright for our "elite" because they don't need help with housing or schooling or health issues, sadly the majority of the rest of the UK population do.

If any party can sort out the mess the UK is in and implement a simple "charity begins at home policy first" I'm for it. And further, I'd much rather see the UK train it's own bloody doctors and nurses and everything else too!

Until that day arrives, I really don't know what people can complain about or expect - the void was bound to be filled by someone.

The way this country has been managed over the last 60 years is verging on criminal - we used to be the envy of the world and now look at us - fighting each other largely because of that stupid bitch Thatcher.

"Oh we're going to make everyone rich and let you to buy your council home at 40% discount..."

Best to round up the boat people when they land , put them on a train to Holyhead then a ferry to Ireland. If France can do it ….

I understand trying to reduce the influx of illegal migrants, but why is he targeting legal migrants as well?
This especially those with ILR already?
ILR is basically permanent residency, one step before citizenship.
They've already spent years paying off visa fees and whatnot.

A lot of those who works in hospitals, care homes and similar sectors are filled with these types of migrants.

If Farage's plan is implemented, those sectors will have shortages.

You think the UK could easily replace those staff?

Why not have a Points System just like what Australia does wherein immigrants are scored based on their skills and proficiency?
Only those with sufficient points are allowed to immigrate.

care workers--ha! Some really know how to use the system.
Indian women working ( ? ) in my wife's home--brought husbands over. Before you could guess--both got pregnant. Both had their babies. Now what ?

I think Farage is talking in part about those on potential ILR now and in the future that came on the back of another person's work visa ie a a family member for example
    AI extract
The exact number of dependents on work visas varies by country and time, but in the UK, there were 159,528 grants to dependents of skilled worker and health and care worker visa holders in the year ending March 2023. This figure represented a significant portion, as 37% of all work-related visas granted in 2022 were to dependents.
    End
So Farage would suggest that there are 159528 potential benifits liabilities in these figures.
As you say interestingly Australia has a points based system but their system is not without its own difficulties.
A .ot of which is public perception of the figures vs actual issues.
As a foot note the Muslim headcount in Australia is approximately just north of 800000 representing 3% of Australia's headcount and after Australians are the next largest people group

Whilst Japan is very Japanese far more than Britain is British, it's not exactly a poster child for a good immigration strategy. Taking care of the increasing elderly population in Japan is going to become a massive burden for working age Japanese.

Obviously there does need to be immigration control in the UK. The country has been guilty for various reasons of allowing low quality immigration into the country. However, whilst it is an important issue that needs to be addressed, those immigrants I see in the park every day when I walk my dogs sitting on benches doing naff all, they are not the reason cost of living is becoming unmanageable. They are not the reason the NHS is over stretched. They are not the reason people cannot buy houses.

Farage's plans which are very unclear and unsettling for anyone with a partner on ILR are unnecessarily punitive. Foreign paedos are a problem in the Philippines. What would your reaction be if, using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, immigration clamped down on all foreigners? The main group of people guilty of exploiting Filipinos is other Filipinos. You'd hope you would be treated fairly.

Screw "Mr" Farage. Anyone who at 17 years old was singing nazi songs is a waste of space. People can change but having those tendencies as a young adult is unforgivable and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the House of Commons.

Why harbour thoughts of bringing your family over to the UK?

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do :D or  ?

I looked at that Italy thing - buy a place for 1 euro or something and then looked to see if they had something similar in Spain...

Problem is where we are here - within a few years it's going to be flooding more and more frequently due to the rising sea level and climate change.

I'm putting it all off untill I've sold the flat - nearly there I hope - fingers crossed.

Then I read antisocial behavior crap like this

Ironic isn't it - the shopkeepers, most likely immigrants trying to do the best they can for their families, are being tormented by two, most likely white indigenous, teenage scumbag girls - police no doubt powerless to do anything about it.

Yeah not allowing dependent on temporary visas is reasonable.

That and withholding benefits from non-citizens.

But getting rid of ILR is not sensible and making those with ILR already re-apply for there visas.

There are ways to fix things without completely scrapping everything.

Sorry but I think you've missed the point on ILR.
I think what he is suggesting is get rid of ILR for those who can't or won't qualify.
For example wife comes over to do hospital work on a work visa and brings hubby and a few children along .After 5 years they are eligible for ILR currently, what Farage is saying is wife clearly qualifies as a nurse with steady job etc, whereas Hubby has no job or a poor paying job so doesn't qualify or can't qualify for ILR in his own right therefore should leave, same applies to kids at age of 18

@PorkAdobo somewhat at odds with your profile picture - didn't he used to wear a Nazi Armband to parties when he was young ?

Hmm. Fancy dress is a bit different to glorification, but point well made. Touché. I will have to consider my options.

Just taking the piss - cases like this one highlight how broken the system is, and confirms what my gut has been telling me for years and that is:

The vast majority of single young men coming here and claiming asylum are simply economic migrants who increase the pool of unskilled labor and suppress the wages of ordinary UK people.

They should be sent to some kind of (1 star quality) offshore processing center and asked to prove their case, if they can't parachute them back down to where they came from :D
