How much does The Filipino Channel cost to subscribe?

We've had TFC for over 5 years.
My wife gets great pleasure from it but doesn't watch everyday. There are some interesting programmes that I also enjoy especially the travelogue ones like Trip na Trip. The Philippines has many truly wonderful places to visit. Sadly, even a lifetime of travelling would not be enough to see them all.
Some programmes in English, but mostly in Tagalog
Some programmes really good, but mostly really not.

Now, the price these days is £199 per year including installation. Paying annually allows 2 "free months" whereas the monthly payment scheme will be around £20 per month for 12 month contract.
The dish is a little larger than the standard Sky dish and looks to a slightly different direction.
The LNB supplied is a basic single-feed.

We used to watch it via internet (subscribed, can't remember how much though) Picture and sound quality not good. But I guess these days with much faster broadband speeds and HDMI connections direct to TV it might be OK.

K has just asked me if she will be able to get Filipino TV here, so I poked around in the basement and found this old thread - can anyone update it?

(Mind you - watching a pinoy film with K consists of a running commentary - "bad camera angle - lighting wrong - over acting - bad continuity.."... so she might better of without it!

I believe you will have to contact your own cable provider if you want to watch it on TV.

But through online, it says P165 per week on their website.

Yes it's very easy to set up.
Once you sign up they will organise the installation of the satellite dish and decoder box.

It was also possible to watch 'online' with a decent broadband connection a little bit cheaper and a smaller selection of programmes.


IMHO I definitely think you'll both be better off without it

..Is K hooked with evening 'telenovelas'? My Auntie is going gaga with 'On the wings of love' at the moment.

Never missed Pinoy channels to be honest. I quite enjoy crime series like CSIs, NCIS, Criminal Minds, they repeat it most of the time though. Only watched UK Border Force in my first couple of months of stay here.

And at the moment, I'm enjoying the Rugby quarter finals

I just can't get my head around the length of time allowed for the adverts here in the Philippines or the awful quality of them or the outrageous claims made or the level those celebs will reduce themselves to for a dollar.

Mate, that's how TV stations make money. A 30 sec. ad cost 100,000 pesos per run in a channel like ABS-CBN. It's more depending on the timeslot. Something like a popular teleserye, an ad slot would come close to a half a million per showing.

They make more money off advertisers than the show itself. Since ABS-CBN is free TV, it's their main method of revenue.

The reason why commercials are edited out in TFC is because they are already earning money from the subscriptions.

But I do agree, it can be annoying. Even in the cinemas, they show ads too. Hahahahahha...

Even though I don't have a TV, if my wife wants to watch live Philippines TV on the Internet when she arrives, it would mean purchasing a UK TV licence!

I was at the wife's aunties a few months back in Scotland and they had several Philippine channels, best getting K into Coronation street and Emmerdale early to save on subscriptions

My missus has tapped into a seemingly bottomless channel of Korean soaps with English sub titles , I call it Kimchi Porn
