It can depend which currency you pay for your beer with. I stopped off for a beer in Istanbul (old) airport last year, the beer seemed rather expensive and the price was shown in EUR. When I asked for the bill they quoted me a price in EUR, I offered TRY and the new bill was about 30% less at the active exchange rates. Shame I did not have time for a second one, I remember the bar staff were feeding me free Pringles.
AED 50, paid using Revolut card, came out at over ten quid, there were customers asking how much in their currency and the chap running the bar got it wrong every time. And a very loud obnoxious German was slagging off the whole UAE and making nasty comments about the phils he was in the company of a Filipina. And the pub was really poor, they changed it a lot since the last time I had a beer there.
Not wanting to start a whole thread on beer prices though perhaps the ring discussion is dead now, in a big bar in Singapore, the Beerwerx I think. It starts off expensive then gets more and more expensive as the evening goes on with two price rises during the day.
A strange connection, but you can buy a heck of a lot of beer for what you'll save in the price of a diamond ring.
