    Set yourself a strict budget to buy.
    If you choose to buy in Manila do some research on internet about decent jewlers
    Be prepared she might want something bigger and more expensive than you want to pay. Don't let her friends tag along causing peer pressure.
    Enjoy the time with her

    the way i see it--the sponsor will have more than enough drain on his bank a/c than throwing money at expensive bling.
    you can always get her a nice big fat shiney eternity ring later on..after the 5 year stage ?

    Of course. We just put in the cover letter about it and said "that's our way".

    If proposing in the Phils, get the ring there as it is cheaper. Reputable one I can recommend, if in Manila, are the jewellers in Greenhills shopping centre. Quite a few there. Go with wjat you can afford. Your gf should be okay with that. If the cost is more important to her than the fact you wanted to be with her forever, well...

    Having an engagement ring as proof of relationship is not necessary.

    I got the wedding ring in a mall in Cebu City. Jewellers are everywhere in the Philippines.

    the engagement ring I bought was just white gold and a simple small diamond for £200. Spent £2400 on the wedding rings at hatton gardens, The wedding workshop http://www.weddingringworkshop.co.uk/ they have ring makers with decades of experience for a custom made ring. we hade platinum with jemstone hearts inlaid, blue for me and green for her.

    back in my late teens--i worked in the birmingham jewellery quarter--for a branch of Johnson Matthey--bullion dealers.

    my mum asked me to get her a new wedding ring--as her wartime job was pretty well battered and worn.

    i had a barrel shaped length of 22 ct bar rolled soldered and hallmarked for her.
    now--most of my lifetime later--my wife wears it--with pride. she knows its history.

    you mean--a place to live==?

    usually its half a house--upstairs or downstairs. each half is self contained but the upstairs has access down the stairs to the entrance doors.
