last night i was outside with my stepson--and asked if he could see this halo effect--he couldnt--not even the one round the full moon which was a bright circle in my vision.

In a perverse manner, I enjoyed the cataract operation.
Yes, it is possible to worry too much that things will go wrong and it is possible to lose sight in the eye but when you see all the patients in the waiting room waiting to be done, the worry dissipates. There was a moment during the operation when I thought I had seen the event horizon - a blinding horizontal light but like everyone else, it was done without too much drama.
Be amazed after the bandage/covering is removed that everything seems brighter after the eye is done (compared to the other one which will probably need to be done at a later time as the brain needs symmetry)
Don't worry bigmac, you'll be OK. :like:

I was looking at Bangkok for this trigger finger thing... but going to try ibuprofen and massage for a couple of weeks first and then probably cortisone shots next ... and if I can find anything else... I'll try that before as well... :)

How did you find out about your heart problem?

The main problem with halos is that they can be a sign of glaucoma and that needs to be checked quickly if pressure is rising rapidly in an eye, my sister is a retired orthoptist and warned me about this decades ago, she herself has slightly high pressure in her eyes but she's also had two cataracts done, no problems.

I've been told I'll need mine done in about 10 years.

I'm very nervous about any eye treatment too.

As John asks how did you find out?

I was called in for the standard NHS check a couple of years back but my aorta is fine.

It's an abdominal one (aneurysm) near kidneys.

NHS do free ultrasounds looking for such things, for over 60s. It was discovered when I had the procedure done several years ago. They then monitor its size every 6 months. Being in the Phils for a few years now, I pay to have the ultrasounds done here. Doesn't cost a lot...maybe p2000. An operation is considered necessary when the thing reaches 50mm diameter. I think mine was 44mm a few months ago. ( If it bursts... yer dead.)

I was all ready and being prepared on the operating table, but it seems my heart took a dislike to the general anaesthetic, and went into cardiac arrest. I had to to be brought back to life, and spent a week in intensive care. On several different meds now, and op' put back a few months. Great, eh. :(
