    Hi All
Just helping my wife fill in her forms for FLR and have come to the English language requirements part my wife took her test in Manila 19/06/2014 at the British council centre . It says in the guidance notes she should of attained a level of A1 in speaking and listening . her exam was scored as listening - 4.0 and speaking - 4.0 .her overall score was 3.5 including the reading and writing .Is her test results out of date and how does this relate to the level A1. It was acceptable for her to gain entry via a spouse visa is her score still acceptable for gaining further leave to remain ?

    many thx

Hi. Is there nothing stated in her certificate on what test she took? It could be above A1 because as far as I know it only states PASS/FAIL. If it shows band scores, it could be higher.

You might want to check this out also:
    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-a2-english-requirement-in-the-family-route

Non-EEA national partners and parents on the family route will need to pass a speaking and listening test at level A2 in order to qualify, after two-and-a half-years in the UK, for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.

If her IELTS is higher than A2, no need to worry on updating her test. Just worry on her test expiration which only lasts for 2 years.

You can reuse an old English Test which was successfully used for a previous visa application provided you apply on or before May 1, 2017. :)

Hi, I spoke to UKVI this morning because I will be applying in September for my FLR(M) and they said that my old certificate can be used. It was B2 grade (5.5, 5.5, 5.5, 6.0) taken >2 years ago but used for my successful spouse visa application. They said that rules will change on May 1 2017 for the lower grade A1 (can't remember if they said A2 as well) and that certificate at this level could not be used, test would have to be retaken. But for me I am sure they said mine would be acceptable when I apply in September. Is this correct does anybody know?

Yes. If your IELTS B2 is still less than 2 years, I believe it is still acceptable. If I'm not mistaken, B2 is higher than A1 and A2. So nothing to worry on this. :)

If you have a level A1 English Test and you are applying after May 1, 2017 then you will have to get a new test at Level A2 or higher in order to apply for an extension after staying for 2.5 years in the UK. In your case since you have a higher grade which is at B2 then you can reuse that result to apply for extension even after May 1, 2017.

Thanks Brom27, yes, just confirmed with 2nd person at the UKVI and the certificate can be used even though it is more than 2 years old. The rules apply for previous A1 level who have to retake to achieve A2 or above as you said. One less cost to meet thanks goodness!

You don't need to meet all the 6 correspondence if you are only switchingung from fiance visa to FLR(M). Your bank account and then joint utility bills will be fine. Add things addressed to you as well like gift cards from Morrisons, Tesco. Letter from Boots, Nectar. Everything that shows your address in it.

You do not need a joint bank account or anything in joint names to apply for the FLR, my wife has been in the UK for three years now and we still have nothing in joint names and never will.

You can open a bank account whilst still on a Fiancée visa at certain banks as mentioned by other members, all banks will accept you as a customer once you have the BRP (after FLR), my wife did not have NI number when applying.

The UKVI realise that you are new to the country and will accept letters addressed to you only especially for the first FLR, once you have been in the UK a while you will accrue joint letters for the next FLR.

    Worry not :)

You have everything you need young lady, no need to worry about it :)

At the end of the day the UKVI are looking for proof of address and that you are living as a couple.
