Well my original wish was to try to get a flight for today the 17th but KLM could not give me a seat as the flight was full. Just as well, as every KLM flight out of Liverpool going to Amsterdam was cancelled today all 4 of them and KL803 is now showing a 4 hour delay in leaving Schipol as well. Going to be a lot of disappointed folk this next few weeks I think, possibly including me
The news from Gatwick and other airports is pretty dire, though expected. Personally I wish I could be in Pinas about now, until say... March.. *Lottery win required*
Yesterday I manged to book a flight to Cebu for January. Jet is going home for about a month. I tried several sites, promising flights for 450 quid return, including taxes, till they came out of my ears, but it is all a big con to attract people's attention. Once on the phone, one realizes what a waste of a call that was, as the flight does not exist, or it is a group deal for 8 passengers or more, or sold out, or they quote much, much more, saying that the price ain't valid for that period of time one intends to fly in.. And when I actually asked for the date, exactly the cheaper deal was valid for... They went into overdrive telling me that it didn't work that way. And Crystaltravel was the worst culprit. Loadsballs, if you ask me. Anyway, got on to Dialaflight, a nice English speaking bloke answered, most likely indigenous to these shores, and within minutes, he found what I was asking for... Tried several permutations of flights, but I settled on the easiest of them all, Qatar Airways... 17 1/2 hours to get there, and only 21 hours back. One plane change each way, bobsyourunclethankyouverymuchI'llhavemesomeofthis. Now... If the weather in January were to play along...... Kind of looking forward to a month of uninterrupted nights sleep already....
We are booked to fly to Bangkok from Heathrow on the Christmas Eve, all we can do is hope the airlines get on top of the situation by then:drama:
Me too mate, preferably till mid June that way I would get the best of both end of the summer over there, also Lottery win mandatory On a related point, I thought Liverpool might be fairly immune from this weather as we have had no snow at all until recently, it started when I left work last night and even then it was tiny. My daughter was coming up to visit me on her way up to her Grans back home in Scotland, not seen her for ages and she was getting in late to Liverpool last night 11:40pm, anyway I got home reasonably early and about 10pm my daughter text's me to say the driver says it's snowing up my way and there might be a delay, so I went and looked out the window and good god in 3 hours there had been 12 inch of snow. I could not move the car lost control just trying to reverse in the car park. So after a mad rush back upstairs I get onto Google and I managed to get her booked into a hotel for the night near the coach station not a bad price as well. So today I get the train to go and pick her up, car is still immovable, I get to Liverpool we go get something to eat and then head back to the station, all trains to my place cancelled all buses off as well, so next thing 30 quid taxi back home, but at least we made it back home. So I am now watching the airport sites like a hawk, KL803 made it out of Schipol yesterday but nearly 6 hours late, today it was only 50 minutes late so that's a good sign, yesterday though no Liverpool KLM flights got to Amsterdam, at least today 2 of them made it across. So a big fingers crossed :drama:
OSS How have you got on with trying to get a flight? I got everything crossed for my flight Christmas day
I've been watching every day, I'm a few days away yet but so far every KL803 from Amsterdam has gotten out albeit a few hours late, the only liverpool-schipol flights that have been cancelled were all those last Friday, KLM appear to be running half service from Liverpool i.e. two flights a day instead of four, most days apart from last Friday the two flights got out, so yes fingers very crossed.
Well we are just about to leave the house to head for Heathrow for our flight to Bangkok tonight, my wife is starting to feel guilty about leaving our children for Christmas. The boys have been busy on their networking sites, all I can hope is they pick up the carpets first. Merry Christmas to all
