"EU leaders have reached a landmark deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, compared with 1990 levels.

The binding decision came after heated discussions at a summit in Brussels, as some members had argued that their varied interests should be protected.

Correspondents say the final deal is a compromise between countries that rely heavily on coal, and those willing to instil greater emissions cuts."

Cool. Watch the lights go off across Britain. A newly-released study into the efficiencies of wind farms jointly published by the Adam Smith Institute and the Scientific Alliance found that wind farms are "deeply inefficient". Researchers found that on average, wind farms produce 80% of their potential power output for less than an aggregate of one week annually and they manage 90% output for just 17 hours a year. The turbines are useless in low winds - less than 7 to 10 mph - and have to be turned-off, to protect them, if it blows a bit - anything over 35 mph.

Another Bad Idea from the faceless wonders in Brussels - who having told us what vacuum cleaners we're allowed to use are now turning their attention to hair dryers and lawn mowers!

A lot of hot air being produced by an organisation called the EU Commission in Brussels. Maybe shut that lot down, and problem solved. :troll:

The EU wants to cut pollution and the so-called "Greenhouse Gases". Let it take the lead by closing all EU offices and parliamentary buildings. Not only would we no longer have to heat and light Brussels and Strasbourg but there'd be a massive saving in all those unnecessary flights between the two cities and between Brussels and other EU nations. :like:

And by what authority do you think these gases can be called 'so-called "Greenhouse Gases"', do you think there is any doubt whatsoever that CO2 and Methane etc. trap heat?

And what? Matters such as this have to be decided and agreed upon at the global level, not by some tin-pot unelected and unaccountable Eurocrat. Unless and until you have full agreement from India and China; unless and until you effectively police the agreement to prevent the wholesale destruction of the world's forested expanses and unless and until you rein-in America's thirst for oil, whatever a few countries in Europe do will have no effect whatsoever.

And you might just note that Britain will be unfairly disadvantaged by this idiotic demand. That's because Britain is the #1 destination for European economic migrant workers as well as migrants from Africa and elsewhere. The more people that live in a country, the more electricity and other forms of power (eg oil and gas) that get consumed. The EU's baseline date is 1990 which is 14 years before the freedom of movement laws. How cynical.

Interesting topic. According to UKIP and Farage, climate change isn't an issue. :D

I am asking what scientific basis you have for implying doubt that specific gases have a greenhouse effect of trapping heat, your post implied that there was doubt!

I used the term "so called" to mean "so named" since greenhouses don't fart generate gases; I wasn't questioning the science there.

What. You are an avid UKIP supporter. You should be questioning the science. The rest of your party does.

Actually the contents of greenhouses do generate several gases :D but that's another matter.

In reality there was no need in your post to use the term 'so-called' as your point would have been made with phrasing like

'The EU wants to cut pollution and greenhouse gases, Let it take the lead by closing all EU offices and parliamentary buildings.....',

adding the term 'so-called' only served to cast doubt on a property of said gases in the eyes of potential readers of your post.

So in what sense did you mean "greenhouse", Alice? Its pretty obvious why they are referred to as greenhouse gases.

And what were you questioning if you wernt questioning the science?

Are you just blurting out nonsense for the sake of it?

Yes there were. In vast quantity. You question the EU constantly. And no different in this thread. Like I say, you shadow UKIP doctrine regardless of quality, casting doubt on (questioning) any other. Are you Farage in disguise?

Were you the chalk monitor at school? Milk would have been well beyond your capabilities, I fear. At the risk of repeating myself, here's what I wrote:
Kindly point-out the "vast quantity" of questions contained in the above.

And by the way, it wasn't I who introduced Ukip into this discussion: that was you! It is you who is pre-occupied with their policies, not I! :p
