    Dinosaurs went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, approximately 66 million years ago. This event, known as the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) extinction, caused the disappearance of all non-avian dinosaurs, as well as many other plant and animal species. The main cause of this extinction is widely believed to be a massive asteroid impact that triggered global environmental changes.
