I am sort of shocked by this

I fear there is more to the background story.

Duterte could have gotten away if it was just the PH government. A couple of bribes here, a couple of threats there, but against the ICC?
If he or his daughter was still in power, sure.

But now, everything he did will come and bite him back now.

    Didn't he kill someone also?
Will he live long enough to be tried in a ICC court?

I reckon he might get away with it, once he is elected Senator... Just as when Imelda did with all the charges she had against her.

On another note, the Marcoses seem to have gotten away with ripping off the country to the tune of billions of peso and more, in the 80's and now Junior is running the country, coming back for more. You couldn't make this **** up.

This would have been his saving grace.

Probs is he's now been apprehended.
His daughter who could have helped him isn't doing well.

    They are back in power.

As long as you are in a position of power in the PH, you can get away with anything, even murder.

Threats, bribes, favours, etc. they have so many at their disposal.

It's like in Game of Thrones.

Also Filipinos easily forget, and politics is a popularity contest in the PH>

He has sanctioned death for decades, be it the Davao Death Squads, or the kill the victims policy of his time in office.

The ICC want him for what he sactioned while in office.

Remember, when the dictators sanction mob violence, it's not them personally that commit the violence it's their followers, how many died because all you had to do was hang a 'drug dealer' card on a body, whether they were or weren't dealing drugs.

We're going to see a lot of that in the US soon.

Duterte has arrived in the Hague, I can't say i am pleased how this has panned out, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a power struggle between the two families and Marcos has out manoeuvred the Duterte's, there is an obvious split in the country with something along a North South divide and the North being Marcos and South being Duterte, my wife and her family are from Mindanao and I can tell you that hardly anyone will have a bad word to say about Duterte, I have never ever felt threatened when I have been in Davao and never get ripped off by Taxi drivers unlike in Manila, yes i get the usual Filipino price and Foreigner price differential when buying from a sari sari but that is about the limit of it.
I don't think any of this will end well and think Marcos has the upper hand, or to use a Trumpism Duterte does not have many if any cards to play.

Marcos should have been on that flight with Duterte to answer for Marcos Snr's well documented plunging the Philippines into severe poverty.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Bong Bong introduces martial law at the nation to protect the ill-gotten gains and try again for more. Never trust a Marcos.
