So the wife is due for her ilr this month and the subject got on to citizenship after the ilr.
This got me thinking when she mentioned about dual nationality so i would like to know does anyone know the pros and cons of having dual nationality or is it better to just have british citizenship.
The wife is adamant she does not want to go back the philippines to live so is there anything that could affect her in later life having dual nationality.

Key issues are how long you can stay on trips without having to get visa extensions and also the ability to own land. Will also I imagine be issues if need to open bank accounts and the like.

My wife has just been granted British citizenship (late last year) and her daughter will apply for BC in may this year (5 years in UK) both are going to go for dual citizenship,
We take the view that it is best to leave all options open for the reasons @Br28016 states plus social and health care benefits

apparently--on gaining British citizenship the applicant automatically loses filipino citizenship. Quite how they find out ive no idea.

I only have British passport and did not obtained dual citizenship. Simply because, I have no intention on going back to the Philippines it’s mainly visits plan. The pros and cons about having dual passport, if for instance something wrong happen to me in the Philippines, UK government will not help me nor rescue me as I am in my other nationality country. The positive thing to have the dual passport is if you intend to buy land and properties in the Philippines, then you must have the Philippines passport as well. Otherwise, better and safer to just have the British nationality. This is just my opinion.

Apparently, whatever passport other citizen submits, Home Office informs their embassy. Recently my friend who is from Mongolia recently had her British citizenship and got her passport. And because she is curious about her Mongolian passport, she contacted Mongolia Embassy to ask if her Mongolian passport is still valid after she took British citizenship. She was asked details of her passport and she was told that her Mongolian passport has been renounced and no longer valid as the Mongolian government does not permit dual citizenship and they were informed by the Home Office when she obtained the British citizenship.

Lol! It never occurs to me to invite her and I doubt very much she would like karaoke because she is very shy type.

If you are married to a Filipino, it is better to travel with her/him going in to the Philippines as you would be granted a 12 months BB visa which is also renewable. As a foreigner, you have no rights to buy lands but you can buy a condo. And if you and your spouse decided to buy lands, it will be under the Filipino spouse name only.

My wife got her British citizenship just before the pandemic and subsequently applied to reacquire her Filipino citizenship. This is mainly because, while she has no desire to move back, she does want to buy or build a house there. Later in life we may want to spend more time there (part year rather than retire), so having land etc could be useful.

Correct! But bear in mind any land title ownership will only be named to the Filipino spouse.
