Do we need a visa to take a 1 week holiday in Spain?

    Hi there guys/gals,

I'm a British guy with a Filipino wife (and an 8 month old baby). My wife came here as my Fiancee on a Fiancee visa in Jan 2017, but 1 month after the marriage that visa expired (in April). She then applied and was granted FLR (Spouse visa) which expires in May 2021.

My question is...will we need visas to visit Spain for a weeks holiday in December or January? Has anybody else in a similar situation done so recently?

    Thanks. :)

    Lee.

Quite simply yes. Regardless of what embassies tell you, you will need a Schengen visa for her if you visit Europe.

Yes you will need a schengen Visa. You can apply up to 3 months before you travel but must supply all flight, hotel and travel insurance bookings.

    Thanks for that mate :like:

That's what I thought, but not sure. Can the application be done online do you know?

Thanks for the reply mate :like:

Do you know if I can apply online or do we all have to travel to the embassy in London?

Can't comment on a Spanish supplied Schengen unfortunately, maybe Stupot10 can. But for a lot of the other EU countries, it is a combination of online application and a visit for biometrics submission at a required office. I’d say spain was no different.

I think for Spain it’s the TLS in London. You can fill in Online then print off to take with you to your appointment to get everything checked and biometrics done.

Thanks for the reply again...so you reckon the biometrics on her current UK FLR wouldn't be accepted? :(

Thanks for the reply again. That is why I'm trying to find someone who has actually done this recently as I won't be going all the way to London to get a short stay visa. If I can't get it all done online then we won't bother going there. :( I'm not bothered about paying for the visitor visa but I don't want the hassle of taking the whole family to London just for the sake of a holiday!

Your wife will have to give her biometrics again - there are strict, internationally-recognised data protection laws governing their use.

No won’t be accepted. We have applied now 3 schengen visas and have had to give bio on each one along with all the relevant paperwork.

Apply as partner of EU citizen as you will be traveling with her to Spain and you will pay the cost of courier no visa cost, think £40 now. And easier and less paperwork to supply on the application.

I don't think we will bother with all the hassle then :(

But if we need to go to the embassy to get more biometrics done then I don't think we will bother :(

Don’t let the application process put you off. 1st time we applied for a French Schengen visa, we stated that we wanted to make multiple holidays to Europe and they had issued the missus with a multiple entry visa which lasted for 2 years. The second time we got a multiple entry from the Netherlands lasting for 1 year. Since we made the initial first trip to the country who issued the visa each time we then used the visa for separate holidays to travel to other EU countries directly while it was still valid. It was worth the effort in the end.

Yeah, cheers for the info but we don't plan on doing any other holidays to EU over the next few years. (We have an 8 month old baby atm and another expected to arrive in May next year, so bang goes any spare cash I might have had!)

No worries, and congratulations. Yes definitely need to save now that another one is on the way and the inevitable ILR fee if you go down that route ;)
