Just got back from the Hospital having done some test. Been feeling feverish with a splitting headache.
Went back later for the results. Positive for Dengue.

I declined to stay in the Hospital having stayed in One a few years back. The Dr said I must come back everyday till Its cleared to have the fever monitored.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Jim.

    From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_fever:
In 2016 a partially effective vaccine for dengue fever became commercially available in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Thanks guys, I went back this morning had another blood test. The Dr told me white blood cells are down but blood platelets are the same, some other stuff I can't remember.

I need to go back again tomorrow for another blood test.

Firstly get well soon Jim.. speaking to my wife about this it seems she her brother, sister, niece have all had this fever at some point, she had it back in 2010 and was the first time she had ever been admitted to Hospital, the worst case was her Niece who had to be transfered from Maramag to intensive care in CDO, so just be careful about this Jim, and if you are feeling worse dont hesitate to get the medical treatment that you need.

We just had a panicked message about one of my wife's nieces falling ill with dengue. Apparently she is having nose and ear bleeds. Doctors are demanding money upfront... In the meantime until she sees a quack I expressely forbidden the family to give aspirin to the kid.

Spent two days in hospital trying to get my platelet up, they were going down and the Dr convinced me to go in hospital.

Now back at home with a stack of meds, feeling a little bit better but. Still fighting the Dengue.

Once you are through this Jim, it would be good to have a description of what it was like, as in what happened to you day to day and just how bad it was, I can imagine that it was pretty bad but a first hand description would be invaluable for other members.

I for one worry about identifying this illness in my kids, i.e. knowing the right time to say go to a hospital.

Really do hope you get over this soon and get back to full health.

I'm about 90% better though today the headache has come back, not as bad as before. It's 16 days now since I got up with a raging headache, the things to identify Dengue is....... Severe Headache,Fever, sore joints and muscles, abdominal pain and a rash. My test showed I had Dengue Hemorrhagic fever which can make you bleed internally and externally. Also I felt very cold, shivering. When I was waiting to see the Dr I remember complaining about how it was cold I told the Dr to turn off the air-con. After I got the results from the Lab I saw that I had Dengue, I showed the Dr and she wanted for me to be admitted, I refused.

Recommend... drink lots and lots of water, I was drinking about 1 liter every hour, take vitamin C every day, take plenty of rest, eat even if your appetite has gone, your body needs to fight the Dengue and if your immune system is weak it will take longer, I was drinking fish soup with plenty green vegetables which my wife made.

I had to go back everyday for blood test. My Platelet was on a downward trend it got down to 81, Dr said if it went to 10 that would be dangerously low, now I had to go and have my blood test every 12 hours. That was when I was admitted.

48 hours and on a IV drip, my Platelet has gone up to 93, the Dr said I am discharging you but drink plenty of water and keep hydrated. That's about it, there's no medicine that you can take only Paracetamol to kill the fever and headache.

Keep covered up and if you can't, apply OFF to exposed skin. At the moment I'm wearing a pair of thick socks and a pair of double skin tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt and OFF on my face and arms. It's about 30c in the sala but not feeling hot.

    Take care everyone.
    Jim.
