Cultural divide or harmonious differences ?

Just a fun observation after Mica has been here on a two week visit. She absolutely refused to use the dish washer and kept washing dishes in cold water. Another thing was everything had to be put away, every time I needed a chopping board, instead of being handly tucked at the side of the bread bin, it had disappeared somewhere.

Is this a cultural difference and are there others to prepare for?

I love her dearly still though.

You know what Max. My other half is pretty much the same when it comes to washing the dishes and stuff like that. I give up now cos she does the dishes and refuses to let me do them.

Sweeping the floor is another example too. The traditional dustpan and brush is out, in our household.

It's people being people. Nothing to do with cultural differences. We all have our own habits.

I think it is cultural though I am not saying what is right or wrong, thats the point about culture. I know I will lose in the end

When my other half was in the Philippines last she bought a Walis Tambo to bring back as she doesn’t like the traditional broom and brush we would use here in the kitchen etc.

It wouldn’t fit in the suitcase. Too much dried fish in it and it was too long anyway even though it was built in two halves.

She most likely thinks you wash your undies in there.

My wife is quite happy with the diswasher, washes up in warm water and our chopping board is always out.

If it was a cultural thing then theose things would not be occuring. Just because someone is from a different country, it doesn't mean every difference they have with you is down to their culture. It could just be how they do things.

Now, dried fish. That's a cultural thing.

Well everything your wife does must be representative of philipino culture no matter what the rest of the population does. Nothing to do with living in the UK / within a UK household for a long time at all.

There are quite a number of traits my partner possesses that I thought were personal to her. But I have since found that a significant number are common to a cross section of Filipinas. So it is good to compare notes.

dishwashers. the last 2 flats i rented had them built in. never got used. here in this house i bought--yep built in. used--2 maybe 3 times in nearly 21 months. only 2 of us--whats the point ?

no--seriously, we both cook--so the one not cooking does the washing up. unless its my turn and ive fallen asleep.

We like washing the dishes by our own hands, that way we can guarantee its cleanliness. Most of the pinays are very orderly that's why things are in their places.

I like the walis tambo better than your broom here. Will get one next time, I think there is online. Some vacuum can't really remove all the dirt.

i would think a dishwasher would clean very well--but by the time its loaded the job is done--by hand. unless you keep loading and do it once a week.

Hmm not sure abt that. There was an instance at my cousin's bf house, the bf used the dishwasher. When we took out the plates and glasses, they were not cleaned very well.

We actually have a dishwasher. We both work so have little time for handwashing these days. But in the past and when there are extra items then she hand washes in her own style

I give her credit as she persuaded me to replace all of our carpet downstairs with laminate. I agree it is easier to clean and probably more hygienic. But she paid for it.

I agree with @menchu_edge that dishwashing machines do not always get everything clean but they mostly do and we work around that.

Dishwashers need salt and sometimes something for the hard water.

i feel like its a waste to use the dishwasher to wash dishes for two. And i find it disgusting to wait a week to get its worth.

So dishwasher is used when we are entertaining.

Yeah, i've seen it in this online shop too. Looking for Barrio fiesta shrimp paste though my hubby loves binagoongang pork (pork in shrimp paste)

Yeah. It's just the 2 of us. Sometimes my stepson is here but it's manageable.
