It's appalling and always has been, when I first went there it was about 300 peso a day which was at that time about £3 a day today 500 peso is about £8 a day and it is still crap.

To get a decent family income requires everyone of working age to work and often kids that are too young to work are out scavenging plastic on the garbage dumps instead of attending a school.

At 24 working days a month they might get 12,000 peso a month which will rapidly be decimated by rent power water gas and food, these people don't have refrigerators as all they can afford in the way of electricity is usually a light bulb for nighttime, they cook now and eat now so they need to buy food regularly and as there is no cooling the food is often rancid.

Even in state school you have to pay some fees.

If you have three of four earners in the family things start to get a bit better and you might see some entertainment and some modern facilities but it is still a pretty desperate existence, we passed down so many of the kids clothes to later generations and they are so grateful for that.

    Is your wife from Manila?

It is cheaper to live in the provinces the money will go further.

I sent this to the account this month this is only living expenses food, water, gas, 31,000 that cost me 525.88 as I got the worst rate possible in the last 30 days on the day I had to send.

This does not include the rent which is usually about £155 but this month, because of the exchange rate, it was £170.55 and I pay the electric direct which is another £80 a month, i still have the internet to pay for this month.

The 26,000 movement was me hiding most of the money in the other account which does not have an ATM card, the 7000 withdrawals are my daughter taking out the money for the week, the dates are a bit screwy because of the weekend but the minute she took out money on Friday, I replenished it from the current account, I was going to only move 3000 but changed my mind and moved another 4000 just set it up for this coming Friday so that it will be there for them on time and it keeps the average minimum balance high enough to stop use being hit by fees, the fees are a days wage 350 per account if we don't keep the minimum daily balance.

At these levels they have a life where they are well fed but have few luxuries, the Philippines is not a cheap country to live in any more, the only real plus is that property rental is low compared to here but most other things are roughly equivalent to the UK.

she sent about 35,000 at the weekend--usually a lot more each month.

It will be a little cheaper up there but that's a lot to have to find for anyone working in the UK every month, I will have sent about 53,000 this month and that's less than I would send in the past but I was drowning with what I was having to send previously.

she earns a good salary..still way below what it should be, but she likes the job..its only half a mile away--and shes good at it.

i own my house outright--my state pension pays all the bills--she pays the food and keeps me in beer. so--we have no money worries. most of my life i couldnt have said that.
but--we leave frugally. she charity shops for clothes, not had a holiday anywhere in 4 years together--and rarely eat out. i waste no money on golf or other nonsenses.

just posting something that came on my facebook.

    *SOMETHING IS FISHY!!*

    Wuhan to Shanghai = 839km
    Wuhan to Beijing = 1,152km
    Wuhan to Milan = 15,000km
    Wuhan to NY = 15,000km

The Coronavirus started in Wuhan yet there is no effect of Coronavirus in nearby Beijing or Shanghai but many deaths in Italy, Iran, European countries and USA.

All business areas of China are now safe.

    *Something is fishy.*

America is not just blaming China without a reason.

Even today, India is locked down but all the cities of China are open. China has also announced the opening of Wuhan from April 08. Not a single leader in China has tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus.

    *Something is fishy.*

The virus has ruined many economies around the world. Many have had to close their borders in an attempt to contain and control the spread of the Coronavirus. Thousands have lost their lives, millions have now got this disease, countless people have been locked in their homes and many countries have placed their citizens on lock down.

    *Something is fishy.*

The Coronavirus orginated from the city of Wuhan in China and has now reached every corner of the world, but the virus did not reach China's capital Beijing and China's Economic Capital Shanghai, located in close proximity to Wuhan itself.

    *Something is fishy*

Today Paris is closed, New York is closed, Berlin is closed, Delhi is closed, Mumbai is closed, Tokyo is closed, the world's major economic and political centers are closed, but Beijing and Shanghai are open. No Coronavirus effect is seen in either cities. There were only a few cases but the virus had no real effect on Beijing and Shanghai.

    *Something is fishy.*

Beijing is the city where all the leaders of China live, including their military leaders. There is no lock down in Beijing.

    *Something is fishy*

Shanghai is the city that runs China's economy. It is the economic capital of China, where all the rich people of China live and run major industries. There is no lock down here, there is no effect of the Coronavirus there.

    *Something is fishy*

Beijing and Shanghai are the areas adjoining Wuhan. The virus from Wuhan reached every corner of the world, but the virus did not affect Beijing and Shanghai.

    *Something is fishy*

Another big thing is, that the worldwide share market has fallen by almost half. In India also the Nifty has gone from 12 thousand to 7 thousand, but the share market of China was at 3000 and just merely dropped to 2700.

    *Something is fishy*

This leaves one to speculate that the Coronavirus is a bio-chemical weapon of China, which China used to carry out destruction in the world in order to gain economic supremacy.

China has now put this virus under control, maybe they also have the antidote/ vaccine that they are not sharing with the world ever or will do when it is in their best interest to do so.

    *Something is fishy*

Hollywood stars, Australia's Home Minister, Britain's Prime Minister and Health Minister, Spain's Prime Minister's wife, Canada's Prime Minister's wife, and Britain's Prince Charles, among others, have contracted the Coronavirus, but NOT A SINGLE POLITICAL LEADER IN CHINA, NOT A SINGLE MILITARY COMMANDER in China have tested positive for Coronavirus.

No time won't tell, the assumption of bio-weaponisation has already been disproved by genomic analysis of the virus, there is no hint of manipulation, and the rest of this garbage requires a huge house of cards to support it.

And just ask yourself what has any country got to gain by fu**ing its customers, it's dumb and it makes no sense.

i was simply posting what arrived on the web--not my opinion--but thought it might be of interest.
i think its about as credible as a virus mutating from bat--to an ant eater--to humans.
    ( and then to tigers--it seems )

i really have no idea what motivates the chinese government. but a few hundred thousand of their own people sacrificed as part of some world domination exercise is plausible.

How about a virus mutating in a pig and being transmitted to a human.

How about a virus like Rabies which infects and kills dogs people and lots of other animals.

Inter species transmission of viruses is well understood science, manufacturing weaponised viruses with specific effects and concocting the antidote in advance is science fiction, we can't do stuff like that yet.

And what kind of world domination do they get what do they actually get out of this notion it's not going to help Huawei sell more 5G infrastructure, it's not going to make any of the Chinese leaders richer, it's not going to get them better access to fuel resources like oil and coal, what do they credibly get out of this fabrication.

Facebook junk is just that junk.

The big problem is that too many people believe what they read on Facebook and change fiction into fact.
They are as upset as everybody else but they latch onto something or someone they can blame.

I had to unfollow two people yesterday who aggressively discussed politics with reference to BoJo in hospital. The man is in ICU fighting for his life for goodness sake :(
IMO, a lot of this sentiment is a spillover from Brexit.

I don't watch these idiotic things. They are a total distraction to positive mental health.

    From https://news.stanford.edu/2020/03/16/fake-news-coronavirus-appealing-avoid/

What leads people to believe deceptive – and even dangerously wrong – information online?

When people are fearful they seek information to reduce uncertainty. This can lead people to believe information that may be wrong or deceptive because it helps make them feel better, or allows them to place blame about what’s happening. This is often why conspiracy theories become so prominent. Again, the best antidote here is subscribing to a reputable news service.
