Just got my renewal quote through from Aviva and I'm a bit gobsmacked, it's dramatically less than last year, I don't think that's ever happened to me before when looking for car insurance I've always had to search around or accept the renewal as it was hard to find a better deal. Last year £494, this year £298 same details no change in mileage or value of the vehicle or excess and I'm one year older at age 66, I thought all the reports were saying that older drivers were getting ever increasing car insurance quotes. The Meerkat and the Pavaroti clone couldn't come up with a better price and that was surprising and neither could Martin Lewis's moneysavingexpert place, they were actually the worst. So I'm acutally going to auto renew which is what they all say you should never do! The Pavaroti clone had come up with the cheapest alternative (companies which all three comparison sites shared) Marmalade, GoSkippy and Vavista (weird name with a V that looks like a tick) which were actually about £5 cheaper, but while I'm not that sure that Aviva is all that great either they are at least a better known name and maybe more likely to pay out in the event of a disaster.
I'm insured with Aviva as well, and the quote for car insurance was only £184 fully comp for a 1.4T Astra GTC. In previous years, I've always went with insurers underwritten by Ageas, but as standard they didn't allow third party driving, so was pleasantly surprised Aviva came through with a much lower price and 3rd party driving included.
last nov i switched from tesco--{who bumped up over £100 on previous year]- for my old fiesta TD--to Aviva ZERO: total just over £200 comp. Last month i insured my latest toy---mini cooper S convertible paid extra £50 till renewal. Only snag is they wont insure my wife ( learner )
That quote of mine is for a 2L Honda Accord, I've gone for various insurers over the years, Direct Line 20 years ago, Hastings Direct recently who were good for a couple of years, LV also good, think I was with the AA once, Tesco in 2016 for my last Accord, generally as a single man with my profession the insurance has rarely been cheap, this quote is probably my best in the last 15 years.
Yeah I think the thing I am with is actually Aviva ZERO my mistake I should have made the distinction in the OP.
i think insurance company risk assessors algorythms show that after 3 years with one client--the claim likelyhood rises so they jack up the premium a lot HOPING the client will go elswhere--and rub their hands at those preceding years with no claims as pure profit.
Nine years no claims here, that's since I got my silver Accord in 2016 after being on foot for about 4 years, that's why I was pleased at a reduced quote for once.
