While THC is not physically addictive it is mentally addictive and most crime in the UK is directly linked to drug abuse.

If you legalise cannabis for person use and not restrict it to purely medical treatment then surely all drugs should be legal why should other drug users be discriminated against?

Most crime is linked to heroin if any drug, ever been in A&E on a Weekend to witness the results of violent crime from the legal drug alcohol?

Theres no shortage of mental addictions the "War on Drugs" has failed miserably and simply created victims and crime it is no ones business what an individual chooses to to there own perception untill it directly hurts another be it drunk driving or anything else

Mental addictions, would that be like "Coronation Street" or "EastEnders", I am pretty sure I am mentally addicted to "Blackadder", I watch it over and over and over again.

People form all kinds of habits all of the time, from the things they choose to eat everyday to the TV programmes they watch, mental addiction in terms of drugs like THC means acquired habitual behaviour.

And yes it probably would be best to legalise all of them, although the likes of opiates will need support, opiates create social and healthcare problems although you might be surprised at the number of functioning heroin addicts, and the number of functioning cocaine addicts.

It would help but it wouldn't completely cure crime, however the crime that arises not from the supply but from those who are dependent on drugs would be stopped, and legalisation would remove the glamour of it all, which is a major factor for some youngsters being drawn into the whole dark drugs world in the first place.

I can see Dune on my bookshelf right this moment, I should read them again too.

Iain Banks is one sci-fi author that I never got into.

I just looked up his publishing history, I wonder if I ever met him, Espedair Street is set in all my old haunts, and it sounds like he was very familiar with them.

I also knew but avoided people with quite a criminal background who lived in Espedair Street in that time, later in the 1990s I lived a stone's throw from there as I had moved into a flat that had been built on the ground of the hospital Pharmacy my father worked in.

I do believe rather more people are consuming alcohol than are smoking pot.

Hardly surprising that there are more alcoholics and instances of alcohol-related 'bad behaviour' than pot-addicts and similar 'bad behaviour' then, eh ?

Alcohol is a drug Graham, as is tobacco, studies show cannabis doesn't and wouldn't have the social health impact of either, I don't smoke nor drink but wouldn't pontificate to anyone on their drug of choice however two thirds of smokers will die early from smoking related illnesses,no one's ever died from cannabis, its a fact.

I think its more logical to not differentiate in this way

Everything we injest/interact with can/will chamge how we perceive/engage with our world (a very personal afair) doesnt matter if its coffee sugar, books ideas etc etc

Overlaid judgements/labels that claim, this is good that bad, are purely cultural its just generally lazy not to think this all through

I just read that,drug-driving?Same can be said for drink-driving to be honest, its a pretty poor article grasping at straws,i sat through a lecture by a neurologist the other day at probably the same establishment david lammy visited in Ontario,i watched a film show about cannabises medicinal benefits, listened to a few lectures, its not as bad as tobacco or alcohol, thats fact, its a lesser of three evils,it does have lots of medicinal properties, one thing is we grow 60-90 tons a year of legal cannabis here, yet we export it,why not use it ourselves as a country?

Lots of politicians have tried grass, as well as an ex-president. Hardly gormless, wait, maybe right.

Smoking has become totally anti-social since the smoking ban in public.
Maybe the dope smokers will now make hash cakes :D
No-one would ever smell them but they would know when looking at people.
I once went to a pub in the Wirral many years ago and lots of people there just seemed to stand around grinning, motionless and then I was told why
