I'm pretty sure Gary Neville would have had his wallet out too, but his involvement in Salford City made it impossible.

Bury FC is now too toxic. The past owners have created a non viable enterprise. It would need somebody who wants to buy it as an plaything and doesn't care about getting their money back. If it was a Premier League side or a big city club, it would have no shortage of offers. Unfortunately, an average sized town with Bolton, Rochdale, Oldham, Salford, Burnley and Manchester on its doorstep is going to struggle nowadays.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the phoenix club can progress through the non league ranks.
