IMO, they are not making money as you imply. They are stopping many people trying to come in for the wrong reasons and it is nothing new.

My wife has a good job teaching English in a public school, so she wants to go back after the visit.

I hope some people who have received visit visas can let you know how they obtained one, Timmy, because most seem to have been refused.

That would be nice. The whole process seems riddled with uncertainty, the phone numbers aren't really helpful, and though the standard visitor visa isn't eye wateringly expensive, you would think quite honestly that the spouse of a British national would be looked on favourably. I guess I'm being too naive.

    Hi Timmy_Lpool,
    Welcome to british-filipino forum.
We lived here in Malaysia. My husband works here. His from Liverpool.
Been applying visitor visa 6 months for 3 times now. Since 2017 to 2019 All are granted 6 months multiple entry!
And hoping another visa again this coming July 2020.

I had 2 successful visit visas, stayed in UK for 6 months each time. It's probably because we have already travelled to UK before that under settlement visa (fiancee) but decided to come back home because our kids were always fighting back then. Then we tried applying for a visit visa, which were both successful. We just submitted the same requirements as we did on our settlement before, except for the wedding plans part, And it's just cheap, so it's not a big loss if u get refused.

my ( now ) wife stayed for almost 6 months on a visit visa in 2013. but do remember a visitor is not allowed to work, and is not entitled to NHS treatment ( except emergency services and contraception.)

do bear in mind that UKVI are looking out for regular repeat long stay visitors who are in effect treating the UK as their home.

Even for emergency services, although the initial surgery may be "free", you can still be charged for follow up appointments and the general cost of taking care of you in hospital (which cost me and my wife a couple of grand for her 1 night stay at Royal Oldham and absolute waste of time appointment with a nurse the next month).

Probably not an issue for an ordinary tourist who goes back to their home country before the NHS can prepare the invoice, but if you are going to apply for another visa in future you may find yourself blacklisted until paid!

I think @Cherie is explaining what she went through previously as I believe she has been a resident here since 2016

My girlfriend applied for a visitor visa last summer and a 6 month visa was approved
It’s definitely not as unlikely as it may first seem. I also wrote an invitation letter which was included in the application, which contain details of where we are staying etc

At the time she was an Au Pair in Denmark, and we provided proof of employment signed by her host family there.
We also provided a letter of invitation from me containing accommodation details, flights, and general plans.
