When I went to the Philippines a few years back, the bananas were far nicer than the ones we get in the UK.

Why is that, and can you buy the Filipino bananas here?

Hi and :welcome: here, 500Dan. ;)

I think they have to be sent in an unripe state for the journey over and fresh things are much more tasty anyway.

Mrs Ash sometimes buys these bananas. She likes to buy them blackened on the outside and microwaves them. They taste a bit odd though. :D

(Actually she has stopped buying them at all now)

There's only 4 main types of banana in the PI, if ever anyone's in Gensan I can probably get you a tour of a DOLE plantation though they are mainly pineapples. At one time I was thinking of setting up making banana chips for export as I had a friend quite high up in Dole who could get bruised or seconds very cheaply.

Interesting, thank you. I'll have to have a look around for them, I reckon they would be great for making ice cream!

That sounds like it might be plantain? The ones I had looked just like UK bananas, but were far nicer - sweet and loads of flavour
