Is this a subtle way of revealing your husband is a horologist and your planning to buy him a new roley?
I'm actually interested in watches, but it is Japanese watches that I like, Seiko specifically. My retirement watch would be a nice Grand Seiko, probably something like this one but my chances of ever getting it are slim Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE215G
By rights I should have been awarded a Rolex after 30 years with my longest employer however they shifted the goalposts and switched it to 35 years. I was laid off after 30 years. There have been a few threads on watches. Here is one from a few years back: http://www.british-filipino.com/ind...n-who-makes-£100-000-watches.7837/#post-39475 My next watch will be one with a built in non invasive blood glucose monitor. Samsung are believed to be bringing them out in the 2nd quarter of 2021.
I did a job for someone once, he said he would get me a submariner at the end of the season, sadly the job never panned out as it should have due to unforseen circumstances. I have had a couple of roleys, nice kettles as they are known
I bought a Rolex on the side of the street in Thailand as it looked nice and had the oyster perpetual movement which someone told me was better and would last. It was in the bin in a month We were all young and stupid in Asia thirty years ago
I used to have one of these. I really enjoyed it. But sold it eventually as I started to develop a bad reaction on my wrist to any watch, regardless of materials they were made from. My friend did some accountancy work for a company that was struggling a bit, didn't take a fee but the boss gave him a nice Rolex for his troubles, I've never been that taken by Rolex.
Interesting old thread, that takes me back and I note that in my post on that page I mention getting my 5J32 movement Seiko that year in 2013 jeez I've had that watch for 8 years and it still works perfectly, it is in hibernation mode just now has been for quite a while, will be interesting to see if it wakes up and to see how far off it is on the time, been a great buy for £77.
My just about current boss was given a Land Rover instead of wages for a spell of work. . I believe it was a nice version.
That's from the same era as the auto-relay watch I own, they were and are great watches, I always felt there was a touch of HR Giger in the Seiko design at that time.
Yes. It was a nice watch. It would go to sleep when I left it at home when going away to work for 2 weeks and then come to life when I put it on again when I returned home, without losing time. Nicely made too.
I was going to add in this thread that I would still think about an Omega Speedmaster I still like the technology in them, but the reality is I will never spend the money on a watch like that and I doubt my work will be doing any fancy presentations when I leave. Yeah at 6500 quid, you could probably get 5000 for it on the open market in mint condition, it would be hard to turn down that liquid cash. That one is mechanically beautiful I would have to have a lot of spare cash to even dream about buying one.
