http://www.gmanews.tv/story/227473/regions/magnitude-49-quake-hits-davao-area several times ive felt such earthquake mostly in a late afternoon when i was living in Davao but not with 5.1 magnitute..4.5..and lower..ive experience once about 6.5 only last a second and its really scary
Earthquakes were very common when I lived in Japan. Yes, sometimes they were very scary, but after a while you do accept them as an almost normal part of every day living. That in itself can be a problem.
The whole of the Phils is an earthquake danger zone, none of it is free of risk of major earthquake, or for that matter major volcanic issues. It's on a huge fault and new fractures and volcano's could happen anywhere.
I would guess so judging from the landscape of Mindanao... And from a quick Google results page there are news stories from the last 10 years about different quakes. Just hope we don't get to see a bg one hit there in our life times
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_Luzon_earthquake Plus Manila is built directly on top of a set of major faults, when they finally let go the devastation will make what happened in Japan a few months ago look like a tea party. It is well known that building standards are so low and corruption in supply of sub standard building materials so high that the loss of life in Manila will be catastrophic if a large quake ever hits, which it will one day.
This was south West Philippines, but my wife felt it and saw the tsunami. she was in Bohol. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...sg=AFQjCNHYTT7ZNM_IPDuB2tD2TMmpIZJ4Bw&cad=rja
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/topsto...8/Metro-Manila-urged-to-prepare-for-big-quake This is one estimate and prediction, I have seen many worse, some estimate serious damage and collapse of many tower blocks I think I saw 50% mentioned at one time and potential death toll getting close to a million or more, particularly as a result of lack of sanitation and water in the aftermath.
Here is another http://www.mb.com.ph/node/309779/how-prepared-are-we Not in the millions certainly, but I think still conservative in terms of fatalities.
