For me, this must be the main reason, John :)

I still have the Quad 33 and 303 combo (made in 1967) but I have no time to sit and listen to music with kids and work these days :(
No valves inside the 303 power amp but it has the classic valve-like sound. ;)

My pal Francis bought his later in the late 1980s, the 33 or equivalent would have been the preamp but I am sure part of it had valves.

Just had a look on eBay and his wasn't the 33/303 but yes that was a classic very sought after at the time.

edit: actually it might have been a 33/405 combo and I don't think that had valves but I definitely remember him have a power amp that glowed maybe he had another manufacturers power amp.

We rented Disney’s Descendants yesterday for the 7yo in HD. And the picture was very good. How much better if we had a higher download and full 4K capability I wonder. To get the best out of the TV we may need to instigate an alternative to the local donkey like performances from the current infrastructure.

Looks like a very advanced animation, most animation looks really good at standard HD you won't see an enormous improvement in animation.

The other point is that you need to have 4K source material, there is quite a bit on Netflix now but it is still limited, you will see the difference in tight shots on human faces and the sheer detail displayed.

Am thinking of the football when it restarts. Amazon Prime were doing it in 4K before Christmas.

Ah a scientist that likes football ;) :D

Ach well there's nothing that says scientists have to be spotty basement dwelling nerds John, I was one I earned my nerd stripes in the 1970s decades before it was fashionable but whereas now the nerds get the girls because to be a nerd is cool, back then you were going to be very celibate for a very long time  I know I lived it

There's a lot of good 4K content on Prime you should try streaming some explicitly 4K stuff because sometimes it gracefully degrades to something a little less than 4K if you don't have the bandwidth but it's still better than Full HD.

I seem to have no problems with 4K with either Prime or Netflix.
Saying that, tho, on occasions my prime seems slows down, but taking the Fire stick out of the HDMI, leave to cool for a minute, takes care of the problem. Or it could be that it doesn't respond too well to the TV remote.............
    Haven't got a clue................

I had a FireTV box for a long time but now I have the cube so no heat problems, the real issue is that John just does not have the broadband bandwidth to support top bit rate for 4K.

This is an albeit not very good example (lots of reflections and not in focus) this is Luke Cage on Netflix a 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 series, when I started playing it the number in the top left was /720 as it just hadn't built up the buffer to get full quality, this particular episode never went higher than 7.62 Mbps but it started out a a few hundred K

Dom my set is superb, that is an artefact of the camera and the moment that I chose to take the picture :)

As I said you are getting the reflections of a large print that is mounted on the wall behind me and a few other reflections, the shutter speed is slow and camera shake is evident, I only took it to show the numbers :D

Also intro scenes for a lot of programs are not that clear on single frames.

Ours is a Samsung 65" curved screen. It is wall mounted using the brackets provided and sits at a level with the eyes so no looking upwards. It came supplied with a Samsung connectivity kit. All external connections, apart from power, are connected via this box, which itself is connected by a super thin media cable to the TV. In addition there is a set of connectors on the side of TV for HDMI, USB etc should you wish to connect that way. They are easily reachable from the side on my TV, no need to remove from the wall.

If you're really short of bandwidth, you have the option to download content, which you can then stream to your 4K TV.

Haha. Yes, ours is also a Samsung (not curved) and the connections aren’t accessible in the same way. Our 43” Samsung was indeed built with easy access to connections ( now mounted on our bedroom wall ). So I am going to take it off the wall today and finalise the connections. Also today I aim to run the cables behind the wall to give the “floating” finish including 2 hdmi cables and a USB extender. Am using purpose made brush plates and Drywall pattress boxes So that the exterior looks cable free. We have it at a good height for the eye without having to look up ( when I wall mounted the 43” tv it was indeed too high and Mrs Ash complained and we learned from that and wall mount lower now).

I don’t know why they didn’t put the connections on one side or the other and paid the price for assuming that they would be at the side like their other TVs but we don’t want to remove the thing again so will make sure all the connections we need are sorted out before remounting later today.

Sounds like a good idea. We get a good picture on the local bandwidth. But not getting the full benefit of 4K yet.
