Yes you're right, ideally Filipinos may be better off in some respects in a multicultural area, having said that they tend to fit in well wherever they live.

I started losing it a while ago, after trying to open an account, for my step-daughter, with a host of banks, and none of them were interested.
The main disappointment was my bank really...

But Barclays opened an account for her with no problem at all.

I'll take that to mind. Barclays seems to be a good bank.

How about Standard Chartered? I have an account here in the Philippines with them.

Is it possible to transfer my funds or at least open up a bank account there, using my details or such?

Far out! 35,000 really? That's like the cost of a jeepney here.

Insurance would be bloody. I hope you're not exaggerating.

@knightstrike Standard Chartered is an International Bank and does not offer retail banking to consumers in the UK. I think Barclays is your best bet when you first arrive - you can always switch to another bank when you have been here at least six months.

As you are unsure what part of the country you will be in, Barclays is an excellent choice as it has an extensive branch network but you can also access funds and pay in cheques/cash at a Post Office. The Barclays BASIC bank account also offers direct debits (automatic payments out for bills such as electric/phone/water etc) and your employer can pay you wages/salary direct into the account.

Unlike The Philippines, your maintaining balance will be no more than £1 and there are really no fees if you operate the account properly.

At least you are over 25, under twenty five year old males need very very rich parents to afford any kind of insurance, quotes of over £2000 are not uncommon, it is only a little bit better for the girls.

In the past few days, due to a breakdown, I tried to tax mt old mondeo diesel..............
As a trial, with no no claims bonus, no accidents and 40 years + of driving experience....
Simple down to earth, Third party policy..........

The quotes were coming in thick and fast and the least expensive was £1100.........

Anyway............ I swapped the insurance over from the other car........

I suggest to ride a scooter for a couple of years to build up the no claim bonus, and then purchase a small car.
