Well the wife is currently in Edinburgh having flown up there for her Schengen Visa Italy appointment at VFS, However it was a wasted journey, One very upset wife and one pissed off husband. More to follow I have to leave now for Birmingham International to meet her on her return.

Morning all as a follow up to my earlier post, as I said yesterday my wife flew up to Edinburgh for her appointment at VFS to apply for her Schengen visa to visit Italy she took with her the following,
    Appointment Letter.
    Application Form.
    Passports, Current and Old.
    BRP and Copy.
    Airbnb reservation.
    Air France Booking Copy.
    Air France Travel Insurance.
    EHIC Card and Copy.
3 Months Most recent Wage Slips.
    3 Months Current account Statements.
    3 Months Savings account Statements.
    Certificate of Marriage.
    Cover Letter.
    Letter from her Employer.
    Copy of my Passport.
and Obviously the means to cover application cost.

What could possibly go wrong ?,

She arrived at VFS well on time, only to be told when checking through her documents that,
1, Her Airbnb reservation did not state her name though the email was to her.
    2. The Travel Insurance did not say Italy though it says on the Travel Information Document any Worldwide Country.
    3. The Letter from her Employer gave her employers name, address and contact details, was signed by her manager BUT was not on company headed paper.

So VFS would not even accept her application.

No we didnt have to pay an application fee but that is not the point, I dont know but I think had I have been with her I would have insisted that they accept the application.

No we did not go because my wife wants to go home as she has not been back home since before Covid, she has return flights booked for the Philippines for next March, that visit will use up almost all of her annual leave except for 1 week and as you know 1 week is not enough to spend time in Canada, that was the week we intended using to visit Italy.

The saga continues my wife flew up to VFS Edinburgh again last week with the requested documentation to apply for an Italian Schengen visa, great this time they accepted her visa application, yesterday she received an email from VFS london stating that the Italian consulate had requested additional documentation.

    1. Full Hotel reservations with all details (Address, Guests, Dates, price) we already submitted all except for the price.
    2. Any other personal UK Bank Account (last 3 months) where you receive your salary + any savings + plus any credit statements, we already sent them in the application.

Why the heck do they need the price we have paid for Hotel accomodation ?, and we can only send current account and savings account statements again the exact same ones that they already have, we dont do credit cards.. This will be the one and only time we apply for a Schengen visa its worse than applying for a spouse visa .

Finally we can visit Italy better late than never, my wife's Schengen visa has just arrived I have to say I am surprised to note the visa only lasts for 1 month I thought that they lasted for 90 days, anyways thats not important she only has enough leave left for a 1 week visit because the bulk of her annual leave will be used next March when she is going home to see her family..

If you are near Sicily, the view from Taormina is spectacular:
(Not my photo - mine are on slides and hard to locate).
