Thanks, I guestimated by looking at some of the inclusive call packages available

    Does anybody remember:
    • Handwriting a letter,
    • Placing it in an envelope,
    • Walking to the post office and buying a stamp,
    • Posting the letter in a pillar box.
Things were so much easier in those days. :like:

I still have the letters sent from the Phils by my first wife... back in 1990. Airmail of course.

The 'round trip' of our letters took about a month. Even in the early 90s, it cost a pound a minute for a phone call to the Phils... first 5 minutes taken up by excited Tagalog chatter from friends or relatives... determining whether or not your loved one was actually at home or not... if they'd figured out you weren't a Martian or summat, causing that strange object in the corner to ring out.

At least letters (with photos) were a lot more convincing, and easier to show the Entry Officer, than a bundle of chat logs and emails.

Agree that FaceTime works well here. I chat with my daughter in UK each weekend for about an hour. Always good quality, no drop outs.

I suggest that you get Vonage and send her the Vonage box that will plug into her router - that will recognise the line as a UK line, and then you can call her for free.

Yes, but she will still have to pay for the internet connection, so may not be too expensive, but not free.

Siquijor Town? I know it well, I lived in siquijor for a while :) have you been there? It's changed dramatically in the 30 years since I first went when there were no private cars nor surfaced roads on the island, isla Del fuego always had a rep for wakwaks, maƱana gals, balbals and aswang, just superstitious nonsense really :) what's your good ladies family name if you don't mind me asking? I have lots of friends on the island.

I suggest a simple solution to some of the costs.
I used to hang around free wi-fi spots, and my wife did the same.

I am on BT broadband at home now, but it allows me to latch on to over 5 million wifi hot spots in the country, and if that is not available, any coffee place, MacD's. KFC, Burger King and supermarket do offer free WIFI. Heck, even M&S...

Failing all that, my "3" deal allows me true unlimited data, phone and text for 20 quid a month
