... cos you're only a number/statistic/'cash cow', to the HO/government - they're not really interested in your specific case, or circumstances!

That's a point of view I guess however it's not one I share.
The forms and application have to be very generic, many of the questions we see on here suggest a relatively straightforward application, but I would suggest that some we don't hear about from across the globe including the Philippines are not so straightforward.
I replied to @bigmac in the form of he suggested that some of the questions he felt were intrusive I firmly believe that they are designed to drill down into the integrity of the application, very much like a police interview with a person of interest (I am sure you have been there in the best possible way to get to the truth)
Every application is different and every applicant may not be honest

(On the 1st FLRM, at least) Since Nov. 2018, at the end of the online application, when you hit 'send' it advises you that all evidence - except BOTH passports - now only needs to be copies, so no certification is necessary.

    Hmm....

As mentioned earlier, to prepare for my wife's FLR visa (arrived here as my wife on 5 year route) I have her booked in for an IELTS A2 Life Skills English test after checking what the language requirement is on the Govt website which states:

    >>"What about customers applying to extend their leave as partners or parents?"

As announced in January 2016, a new English language requirement at level A2 is being introduced for non-EEA partners and parents. This affects those applying to extend their stay after 2.5 years in the UK on a 5-year route to settlement under Appendix FM (Family Member) of the Immigration Rules. The new requirement will apply to partners and parents whose current leave under the family Immigration Rules is due to expire on or after 1 st May 2017.<<

So my wife is non-EEA, she's on the 5 year route and she now wants to extend her stay past 2.5 years so the A2 sounds like the certificate to have.

However, the wording of 'extend their stay AFTER 2.5 years' is confusing as the first FLR has to be made typically before 2.5 years (unless married before first visa).

So if the A2 is for those who want to apply AFTER 2.5 years on the 5 year year route it's the certificate they need to apply for ILR, in which case why not say that?

As it is I'm filling in the 'Family Route' FLR visa application and it's asked if the applicant has the A1 IELTS (which she has as it was needed for the 'Leave to Enter').

No requirement for the A2 whatsoever.

She’s better off taking the B1 level as she can use it again for the ILR application (if rules doesn’t change). That’s what a lot of people are doing now to save doing the exam again later when applying for ILR and save some money as well. That’s what I’m doing when I apply for my FLR later this year.

After checking some examples of the B1 level of English I’m not sure my wife could definitely pass B1 just yet, which is why we opted for the A2.

I also read that the B1 certificate was only valid for 2 years so we wouldn’t have been able to use it for the ILR application.

After checking the UKVI site again however it indicates that the B1 could be valid after 2 years if it’s already been used for one ‘visa application’ previously.

The UKVI site also indicates that the A2 certificate is valid for Indefinite Leave to Remain and Citizenship so I’m more confused than ever now.....

my wife took b1 for her 2nd flr--and it is usable for ILR--the 2 years restriction is for those tests taken outside the UK.

there isnt a written test--it was a conversation between my wife and another applicant ( french woman ) each asked the other any questions they think up--a topic was given for them to talk about. the conversation was for 20 minutes and was recorded for the exam.
    she passed.
she took the test at highbury college portsmouth--IELTS for UKVI.

Yes there are examples of conversations at A2 and B1 level online supplied by UKVI and after another year or two here in the UK my wife will be fine passing B1, but for now I have to be 100% sure and whereas she ‘might’ pass B1 now I know A2 is a given.

I’ve booked her A2 test in Manchester.

Today I’ve just printed out her visa application with to double check all the answers and the document requirements, and it does only ask for the A1 certification:

“Have you passed an approved English language test”

“Did the test assess your speaking and listening skills at a level equivalent to CEFR A1 or higher?”

Is this specifically for the pre-Sopra Steria applications?
We just got back from Sopra Steria last week from submitting our docs (first FLR-M) and they only had non-certified scans of our passports. Came home with the originals.

I was only referring to the 'old' system, where you send your documents via 'snail mail' - albeit guaranteed next day - to Sheffield yourself. Sorry for the confusion.

The 'new' system was available when we submitted my wife's 1st FLRM (Feb 2019), but I couldn't make any sense of it so opted for the 'old' way!

You need to get the documents as one of them is a sponsors undertaking form and another is disclosure authorisation for UKBA to do their checks.
I don't think you can revisit the application once submitted.

    Thank you for the link.
I came here on a flr m spouse visa n will expires 3/2/20. And will need to apply for extension 28 days before expiration. Think i m going to start going through all my files to gather docs, booking of B1 test, getting a fresh property report etc. Heard that B1 is acceptable for ILR application even after 2 years old?

Has your wife gone for her test?

    Regards
    AC
