I am struggling with this obsession with folding phones. They all seem to be based around taking a 6 inch phone and making it bigger. I would prefer to see a new flip phone that incorporated the folding technology. Thoughts?

Nothing new in folding phones: the Motorola Razr was one such device that first saw the light of day in 2005.

It was half screen and half keyboard though with a hinge between. the first clamshell design was 1989. I want a full screen device that folds smaller, not a full phone that unfolds larger. Interestingly it would get a big take up from women whose trouser pockets are always smaller than men's even on jeans

I sincerely cannot see the point in a folding phone like the one Samsung just came out with lately and maybe "Apple" will probably re-invent next year. My current J7 SIM only, is more than adequate for my needs. I cannot understand people spending hundreds and hundreds of pounds just to keep up with the joneses...

I don't see the point of it when the Operating System is Android but there had been rumours of Microsoft doing a foldable Surface phone but nothing appears to have come of that yet, they have been working on a new Windows which will run natively on ARM including full support for the x86 desktop, they have achieved that but not implemented it on any hardware at this point.

What this would mean is that you would have a full power Windows operating system running on a portable handheld device with a screen large enough to make it useful and the ability to plug it in to a screen and keyboard and use it as a real computer, it would also be capable of running Android programs natively as well.

Personally in my view modern phones are at the limit of usability in terms of their user interface at about a 5" screen, older smartphones like the original Windows mobile from 13-14 years ago were smaller but they used a stylus to interact, I'm not sure I would want something that folded smaller than those old phones.

I'm still using a Samsung Note 4 (with a stylus) and still like it even though it was expensive when bought new.
There seems to have been a swing towards cheaper phones, people seem to be moving away from buying flagship models.

Got this dual sim Motorola for my wife and she likes it although it doesn't have a stylus.
Will choose something similar or even another Note 4 if I can find one in good condition.

I find it mad that anyone would spend the best part of a grand on a "phone" My Dodgee dual sim is great and for £50 it doesnt matter if it breaks after the year warrenty I point out to the misss that if she had saved all she had spent on "smart phones" that are mostly used as a streaming monitor she could spend a month on hols in the Fils and buy a new car lol:)
