Apologies if this topic has been covered already in posts,as I haven't been here for a while.
I have a filipino boyfriend from Surigao who I went to visit in September.I want him to visit me over christmas/new year, but he hasn't a Job at the moment,or a bank account.I'm going to act as his financial guarantor.
I read on another site that he'd almost certainly be declined a visa, even though Id be supporying him.
    Is this true??

I know a Filipina who applied with no job, she got a visa and stayed for 6 months and returned on time (her boyfriend was also supporting her). After a few months she reapplied and then got rejected. She was told she was lucky the first time to get one.

If you don't apply, you will never know. My wife and I got a 2 year tourist visa last year but she only stays a few weeks at a time, but she had a job and a daughter to return home to. Just find reasons to go back thats all you can do. Good luck

It’s very hard to acquire a visit visa especially if one has no job or strong ties to go back to but sometimes people get lucky with it coz even someone who has a job gets denied as well so you really never know until you try.

State in a letter the genuine reason why you want him to visit.

Would he stand more chance of being accepted on a fiance visa?

I would say so but again you really never know until you try. It’s not very expensive to apply for a visit visa so you can always give it a go but his chances might be slim.

OMG, I've just seen the cost of a fiance visa, £1,400!!-absolutely stunned. This really takes the piss. And if you are refused, then you can't even have a partial refund?

No refund unfortunately. I’m afraid it is what it is.

You are embarking on a very expensive journey in life, that number is only the start by the time you are done you can multiply that number by a large factor.

I dis agree that it does but there you go!
However here are some broad figures on the journey you may embark upon, figures in pounds and approximates and based on curent fees

    Fiance visa
    Spouse visa FLR
    Spouse visa 2nd FLR
    Indefinate leave to remain
    British Citizenship
All in All about £8000 to £9000 over a period of approx 5-6 years
English tests and Other costs about £1000

So as @oss says a bit of a costly journey

I'd rather have a second hand car for 400 quid that lasted 4 years :)

Actually I'm at 2.5 years and counting :)

The costs of that route are costs that I would have undertaken 8 years ago if the route had been possible for my family, but it wasn't due to her status, still not actually possible and now not actually worth it anymore in part due to my age and also due to my hopes for the future.

Deciding if the cost is worth it is a complex question, if the relationship is a committed relationship then one has to stand up and be counted and pay the price one's government requires, but it's not an easy ask for a lot of people.

There is financial discrimination in the system and it is quite unfair in many ways.

Thanks for that breakdown of approximate costs Mattecube , very helpful .
So , if a dependent child is included in the equation, would that virtually double the cost or not ?

Pretty much depending on the childs age he/she may not have to take the English test at first but they may kick in later, but your only talking a few hundred pounds, knock off the Fiancee visa cost also,so probably £7000 to £8000.
The earning threshold also increases for the sponsor!

Thanks for that , it’s really useful info . Can I ask one more thing ?

From what I have read on the forum before , it seems like it’s a five year process , so is the cost spread over the initial fee for fiancé/spouse visa , and then FLR fees two and a half years later ? Thanks again in advance .

Child is only nearly seven years old , so I guess no English test .

the ILR fee--at the 5 year stage--is the big one.

Yes spread over 5 to 6 years however the fiance visa is only 6 months then you will apply for a spouse visa(FLR) plus English test so in first year costs will be £3000 approx.

English test kicks in when the applicant is over er 18 and under 65

That’s great info thank you . I think if it did happen , I would be applying straight for spouse visa . Still lots of things to decide and deal with first though .

Thanks again for your info and input Mattecube , it much appreciated always .

The visa for my first Filipina wife was 40 quid all-in. Bargain.

Now you can see why I've gone off to get buried in the Phils this time. :D
