7 days .......... it is not long enough to know her, you need to be in contact with her at least a year........ life is not lust, and from lust you can make many mistakes........ tread slowly

    Hello CatchFriday.
Some people marry quickly and they stay together for a long, long time yet some people spend years and years getting to know each other, get married then divorce quickly.
For me, it is all about destiny and making a marriage work through the ups and downs.

When my wife and I met in the Philippines, we both talked about having kids so we pushed the boat out quickly.
Now my son rides his geared bicycle and my daughter plays on her Playstation.
How quickly time flies and how quickly babies grow up.

I agree. All relationships are different, too many variables to just say time is the (or one of) key factor for an enduring relationship.

Love at first sight springs to mind.

Get to know the family and the culture properly. Neither can be brushed aside. Both are extremely important to the majority of Filipinas.

I had a shock last year, Graham.
My wife went back to her island and told me she didn't enjoy being back in her country. She said it was too hot, the hubel-hubel (motorbikes) were too noisy and the roosters were even noisier and were driving her nuts.
I think she has become partially British.

I speak from experience- I one married a woman who I met in three days after meeting her - we were married 11 years, looking back and reflecting on the decision, I wouldn’t have made the mistake with hindsight, would you?

it's not all that unusual that actually. Some of them go back, and just hate it. Everything that made it so imperative for them to want to leave in the first place, comes flooding back in a kind of horror. It's not just the noise, the climate, and the chaos either. They can sometimes also reappraise their opinion about family members and people in the community, for being these utter ill-mannered asshole peasants, as if the foreign exposure they have got, means that they are now seeing them as if for the first time. They can also be kind of concerned, even if it is an irrational belief, that something might go wrong, and that they might not be allowed to leave the Philippines, or not allowed back into the new country.

Sorry to hear that, 11 years for married within 3 days is strong!

I guess as people are saying - I will have to visit again, maybe get her to come to UK to see her friend who is married and me. Build it up like a friendship for when the time is right. If it doesn't go anywhere then that's life... and experience.

No use crying over spilt milk, CatchFriday.
We all make mistakes but we also do good things too. Glass half full :)
You were married for 11 years; some people don't make it through 11 weeks!

I left England when I was 21 y.o. and travelled for many years also, Stellar, so I know some of the things she is feeling.
From my experience, I told my wife that she is the one who has changed and not the people still living in her barangay.
The roosters in her sitio didn't listen to her though, they did not make it easy for her but in a strange way this made me laugh as I often wanted to wipe the lot of the noisy buggers out and I love animals......mostly.

She could run into problems getting a visitor visa though. IMO, better for you to visit her.

This reminds me of the lyrics to Pink Floyd's "One Slip", Paul.....

A restless eye across a weary room
A glazed look and I was on the road to ruin
The music played and played as we whirled without end
No hint, no word her honour to defend

I will, I will she sighed to my request
And then she tossed her mane while my resolve was put to the test
Then drowned in desire, our souls on fire
I lead the way to the funeral pyre
And without a thought of the consequence
I gave in to my decadence

One slip, and down the hole we fall
It seems to take no time at all
    A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for life
A small regret, you won't forget
There'll be no sleep in here tonight

Was it love, or was it the idea of being in love?
Or was it the hand of fate, that seemed to fit just like a glove?
The moment slipped by and soon the seeds were sown
The year grew late and neither one wanted to remain alone

One slip, and down the hole we fall
It seems to take no time at all
    A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life to a life
The one regret, you will never forget
There'll be no sleep in here tonight

    One slip... one slip...
