Here's hoping. A real inconvenience to update every 5 years.

Here's hoping as well. Hope it's implemented before I renew my passport. That would be rather convenient.

I'm sure if it comes off it will be welcomed by Filipinos worldwide.

Just updated. Looks like we've missed out on the 10 year passport this time then.

This bill was forwarded to the senate. If all agrees, this will be effective as soon as possible. The 10-year validity of passport is possible after all. :)

As far as i know, it is approved by congress then needs to be approvedby senate (which will take i dont know hoe long) before it gets to the president for his signature. Once its signed by the pres, it needs about 30 -60 days before it becomes a law (implementing rules will have to be drafted then published at national gazette then i dont know when it would reach the embassies).

But i hope its all done in the next 3 months.

I wonder if this will apply to Philippine child passports, in the UK children's passports have shorter validity because their appearance obviously changes faster.

I'm sure when it gets to the president, he will sign this immediately. He was vocal to have this implemented. The only waiting period is the senate. Hopefully, soon.

Under the bill, the validity will be extended to 10 years for adults, or those 18 years old and above.

It states, however, that the issuing authority "may limit" the period of validity to less than 10 years in the case of minors, or "whenever the national economic interest or political stability of the country" makes it necessary.
