    Fibre to the premises has no attenuation of the signal due to the copper and opens the possibility of truly huge speeds as the main trunk backbone of the internet grows.

    FTTP has no distance from exchange quality issues ever and it is the way to go.

    BT offered to do this back in the mid 1980's but Thatcher refused to let them because she wanted the cable companies to be created, basically what collapsed into what is now Virgin.
