Should I be Worried

I don't get blood taken very often but my last blood sample was taken on Sunday and this has got worse and feels like there is a pocket of blood as there is a lump just down from where the nurse finally succeeded.

She was sucking air on the first attempt which was about an inch to the left, the second attempt worked but was not a nice easy sample and this is the arm that has always been easy and most of the time the doctor manages to get blood from.

I post my right arm as well which is way better after 3 days after having the canula removed after two days of it being in.

Should I be worried about this or will it just get better anyone else experienced a blood test that did this?

(for once I'm not Googling it)

i have blood tests each year. i long ago stopped attempts to get it from my arms--it was taking too many tries--and was painful. back of my left hand now--which usually means only trained phlebos will do it.

I do exactly the same, after having been butchered by a youngish nurse with needles from hell.

The thing is my left arm is the easy one that they always get perfect first time, I mean over the last 7 years as I never had many blood tests before then.

Did you ever get bruises like my first picture Dom?

    Or a lump?

Just a bruise, but not on the scale of yours. 20 pence piece size.

I had “millions” of blood tests when I was in hospital in 2005. One or two from the deeper arteries. And then once or twice a year for the normal range of tests at my GP. And do not experience that. I know last time the nurse struggled to get a sample from my left arm so she went to the right arm but I have no idea why she struggled.

When I was in Libya I had to have a blood test to acquire a driving license ( don’t ask) and the nurse couldn’t get a sample despite trying several times. It could be the competency of the nurse in question?

Looks a bit like my arms after a junior Nurse in the Philippines tried and extract blood when I had dengue. She gave up and called for a senior nurse. Then ever 12 hours I had to go and have blood extracted.
400 pesos a go plus doctors fees.

Yeah a small bruise is what I would expect, this thing is over 3 inches long, but at least today the lump is a bit smaller.

    Google

Another rare complication is for a small clot (or thrombus) to form in the vein at the site where the needle was inserted. This is noticeable as a small firm lump just under the skin. Thelump may or may not be tender andwill go away over a couple of weeks.

400 peso jeez £6.50 for a blood test and you were in hospital for a long time.

This nurse was a mature woman her first guess was way off and I told her no there is no vein there, her second try was like a horror movies with the blood spurting wildly into the syringe, normally it is a simple smooth gradual pull that fills the syringe.

I think that is what has happened John, I didn't want to google it myself :) as I do sometimes get panicky.

After The doctor examined the lab results she looked shocked and said you have to stay in hospital, I told her that I don't want to but after 3 days my platelet count was going down. So after what the doctor told me it made me realize the serious of this, So I got admitted for 2 days after my platelet levels started to go up. Took a month or so to get back to normal.

One week from hospital release and still healthy, let's see if I can get another week I'm technically not clear of SARS-Cov-2 exposure in hospital for at least another 7 days, fingers crossed :)

I forgot to reply to this post o_O

I have also had these bruises when blood has been taken through the years, Jim.
I suppose it depends if they hit the target ;)
The male nurse who took some blood a couple of weeks ago in the hospital said "oops" as blood shot out onto my arm
