I just saw a letter from DWP that says as from April 2020 those pensioners who are getting the £70 pw or there abouts, for dependants, will cease to do so

That was the first I had heard about it, but maybe that is because we live in Spain and a snail mail letter from DWP might be on its way to me!

Just had another confirmation that I will be loosing the £70 per week dependants allowance in April which I have been getting since March 2006

just in passing. Unlike most other retirees from
U.K. living in Spain, I am obliged to pay U.K. tax on crown pension. I do not have a vote on U.K. As from a couple of years ago my U.K. crown pension is ‘taken into consideration but not taxed’ in spain. Thus I start paying spanish tax rate of 29% on my OAP from the first euro as I do not get any tax free allowance. Result my Spanish tax bill increased from 1,100 € a year to 2,800 .

i am getting to like living on bread and water. !! !

How do I go about getting my OAP dependant's allowance (backdated ?) for my Mrs here in the Phils ?

Oh, and then there is our 4 year-old son. :)

I believe the OAP dependants allowance was terminated for marriages after 2010.

We married in 2006. It was then £50 p.w.

We continued to receive it in Spain. As I said it will though stop April 2020

Stupid question, but how does one know if they are getting the dependants allowance?

David. One was required to apply for it. Each year the notice regarding what amount of pension would be paid the following year, showed the allowance separately

April 2020 tomorrow. Just saw on my bank statement I just received the last OAP including the dependants allowance. The pound is down again against the euro só economy time is here.

I feel for those for whom their OAP is their only real source of income. I am lucky as I have a crown pension too.

    What is the dependants allowance?

Okay. Just looked it up. I didn’t know it existed.

John. Pensioners who married I believe before 2010, who had dependant spouses or children, were able to claim an additional amount on their OAP.

When that was stopped, those already in receipt of it continued to get it. It is that allowance which stops this April.

In 2006 when I married it was about £50 p.w. it is now £70.
