MANILA - The Philippines' decision to recall its representatives to Canada is a warning that diplomatic ties between the 2 nations may end over heaps of trash a private Canadian firm had illegally sent to Manila some 5 years ago.

This after Canada missed a May 15 deadline to retrieve the garbage from the Philippines.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said the Philippines would maintain a diminished diplomatic presence in Canada "until its garbage is ship-bound there."

"The fact alone that Secretary Locsin has recalled our diplomats there (Canada) shows that we are not only serious, but we're warning them that we're gonna sever diplomatic relations with them," Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a press briefing.

To me,that rubbish is free fuel to generate cheap power.
Only thing missing is a big modern incinerator and generators hooked up to the grid.

Who is going to take care of the thousands of pinoys in Canada??

All pinoys I personally know in Canada apply for citizenship as soon as they are able,i wouldn't worry about them, they have real good standards of living,i was at a birthday party last year in a six bedroom detached house in Ottawa, the people who owned it had came from nothing in the PI.

I've met her several times when we lived in Davao. She certainly takes a stand against criminals and those who take advantage of the more vulnerable in society and she doesn't tolerate corrupt officials or idiots but she's definitely not thuggish. I think she scrubs-up quite nicely:

What that Al Jazeera report does not mention is that the Sheriff had been bribed to clear the shanties' residents two hours before the agreed time. Mayor Duterte brokered the agreement between the developers who owned the site on which the shanties stood and the shanty residents themselves. The Sheriff had disobeyed a direct instruction from the Mayor's office not to move-in until the appointed hour and when she arrived she hit him out of frustration. The Sheriff did file a case for assault against her but this was not pursued by the City Prosecutor and she was reported to the Ombudsman who also exonerated her.
