I've been looking through as many replies to various forums here and am still non the wiser as so many people have slightly different circumstances so receive different advice.
My story is....Im from UK, new wife is Filippina, we married in Hong Kong last month and submitted our paper work to Philippine Consulate there. She's gone back to Philippines while I'm now back in UK going for Spouse visa. I'm doing all the online stuff using an account that we set up in our joint names so it's as if SHE is the applicant. Completed form https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/User/Home
but not submitted it yet as she has her English test later this month and will also get TB X-Ray done before then. Then will click on "Confirm application". What happens after that? I understand I need to complete VAF4A Appendix 2 which has to be downloaded to be completed, what to do with it? What other papers do I need to get together and where do I send them? Everything else seems fine, I have a good chunk of savings, get income from a rented property, live for free with my mum in her large house (unregistered carer), I'm retired.
I want to get this right first time so really do appreciate your help and advice.

Do the English test and tb screening before you press the apply now button .
Strongly suggest you get all paperwork together also before you press apply as you have a limited number of days after you apply to get the paperwork in.

you will need written permission for your wife to live there.
you may need to consider getting an accommodation survey report done.
are you on the council tax bill ?

You will be told where to send your documentary evidence after you submit the online application.

Your in a good place at the moment do the appendix2 now and the SU07 (download )
Once you have the tb certificate and English pass certificate ( you have to record the certificate number on the English test section on the electronic application)
Your good to go and complete electronic application and apply
You should get an electronic system generated checklist of what documents to supply and where to send them at this point

Is it cash or shares ? Guidance talks about savings being in cash. I disagree with lots about how they set the rules but they get to set the rules.

From reading other posts the process has changed recently to scanning at centres in UK as opposed to sending them to sheffield but unfortunately not up to speed on that as we did visa application back in October last year.

i think the idea is you travel ( at your own expense ) to wherever one of these scanning centers is--cough up £75 to have your docs scanned--to save someone at UKVI having to do it, then post them back to you IF you included a stamped self addressed envelope.

but then thats better than having your parcel lying undelivered in some royal mail stock room because the driver couldnt find the bloody box number--or there was no-one there to sign for it ( assuming said person could actually write ).

My savings are in bank accounts so it's cash. Now you've lost me, what is this bit about sending paperwork to Sheffield? I thought processing was done by VFS in Manila so that is where my wife would take all the paperwork.

i think all that has stopped. your wife attends VFS with her copy of the printed off application form, and passport to have her biometrics done. they dont accept other documents now.

I am assuming that your wife currently has her documents(or will get them) over there and you have your supporting documents over here,if so

Your wifes supporting documents will be scanned at the Biometrics appointment and sent on to UK Visa and Immigration, these include and she must take with her current passport,tb certificate and English certificate, also take the front page of the electronic application it has barcodes on and the GWF number that way the documents are married up,you as the sponsor will (as I have said above)be told where to send your supporting documents.
You will need to do 2 copies of everything to post on( we will cover that nearer the time)

Make sure you record her English pass certificate number on the English test section in the application form.

Further reading and it is ambiguous, the Sopra Steria site suggests its scanning service is only for applicants in the UK but the VFS global reads as below, (See heading Sopra Steria)

however it is only a scanning service to deliver electronically the application to UKBA.

Not all the centres mentioned below may be to greater distance to travel hence why you can still post, also the scanning centres allow you to keep all your documents should you have a pressing need for them.

Upshot is You will be told where to send your documents

    SOPRA STERIA

Supporting documents for a visa application
If you applied through Access UK you can upload your documents yourself, or bring your original supporting documents and use our Document Scanning Assistance service at the Visa Application Centre, and we will scan them for you and send them to UK Visas and Immigration. You can also submit photocopies you have made yourself, but they must be clear and legible.

If you have applied for your visa using Visa4uk, bring your original documents, into the Visa Application Centre, and we will scan them, send them to UK Visas and Immigration and hand them back to you. You can also submit photocopies you have made yourself, but they must be clear and legible.

Both processes enable you to keep your supporting documents during the application process.

If you are applying for a settlement visa, there are three options for submission of supporting documents:

    1. For a fee you can, at any stage in the process, opt for the Document Scanning Assistance Service at the Visa Application Centre.
    2. You can self-upload supporting documents without additional charge. If you wish to self-upload your supporting documents, you should refer to the document checklist you have received as part of your online application.
    3. Your sponsor or an agent can submit supporting documents in the UK for a fee of £75 per application payable in cash or with a debit card.
All supporting documents can be submitted by your sponsor or an agent at any of the following locations in the UK

    1. London: 66 Wilson Street, London, EC2A 2BT
    2. Birmingham: 5 -14 South Road, Smethwick, Birmingham, B67 7BN
    3. Belfast: Merrion Business Centre, First Floor 58, Howard Street, Belfast, BT1 6PJ
    4. Leicester: C/O Peepul's Centre, Orchardson Avenue, Leicester, L E4 6DP
    5. Cardiff: Temple Court – 13A Cathedral Road, Cardiff CF11 9H
    6. Manchester: 50 Devonshire Street North, Manchester, M12 6JH
    7. Edinburgh: 1 Rennie’s Isle, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 6QT
    8. Liverpool: SUITE NO 207,Second Floor, Graeme House, Derby Square, Liverpool, L2 7ZH
    9. Bradford: Skipton Chamber 16-18 North Parade, Bradford, BD13HT
Your sponsor should bring a copy of your passport, along with your document checklist if you have applied via Access UK, or the first page of your visa application form if you have applied via visa4uk. Your sponsor should also provide all supporting documents, these will be scanned and handed back at the time of their visit.

Your sponsor should also provide clear and legible photocopy of all supporting documents, these will be scanned and handed back at the time of their visit. All photocopies should be A4 size. Any documents which are smaller or larger than A4 size be photocopied onto A4 sized paper. Torn, crumpled or heavily creased documents cannot be scanned and therefore should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper before they are submitted. Documents should not be laminated.

Yes Mattecube, wife should have all her docs in Philippines. Birth cert, proof of never married, passport, she has proof of our relation over last 4yr as she keeps a diary with photos, our wedding cert, will soon have A1 English papers and TB X-ray, Gov ID card, Passport type photo. She will obtain a letter from her boss proving employment, not sure what bank details she can provide but will get whatever she can. What else will she need? She attended some SFO course but was told to go back once visa is approved to get a stamp.
As for me...I've got my Birth cert, 1st marriage cert, divorce papers, latest marriage cert, Land registry for house I own in UK which I rent out, I have the tenancy agreement for said property (I actually live cost free with my mother in her house as a kind of carer. This is where we intend to live once my wife is here). Mum will write a letter confirming that once my wife is here we will all live together. I have an email confirming I'm on the electoral role at mums address, I have one utility bill in my name at mums house - phone/internet bill, my bank statements, driving licence, etc are at mums address
Things yet to do...I'll get accommodation survey report done (thanks Bigmac for that advice), I'll get a bank statement showing my savings,
complete and print forms SU07/12 and VAF4A app 2
What else can I do now?
